I can understand why Arsenal fans dislike our success. We broke up the cosy Sky top 4 who were running a little closed shop and raking it in mainly at Liverpool expense. What is there excuse for Spurs matching them for the past few years? They pay ridiculous amount to watch a side that is nowhere near winning anything whilst shareholders laugh at them. Better to lash out at others than take a look in the mirror.

I have a mate who has been going to see City week in week out since the 60's. We were talking about Arsenal fans dislike of us because of our money. He informed me in the 80's when Manchester was having a tough time of it and London was flourishing that it was quite common to go to Arsenal and Spurs and have the home fans wave money at the City fans. My heart bleeds for them these days it really does.

What I will never understand is fans of clubs like Everton and Villa disliking our success. Surely if we can win the league, so can they one day with a bit of investment. We have smashed up the old order which has seen Liverpool without CL cash plummet to a middle table side opening the door for Everton, Newcastle ect to play in Europe. Throw into the bargain that these clubs can and have fleeced us anytime we want any of their players. Swanse have built on last season sucess by running a good ship and fleecing us for an average player which was wisely reinvested. I am not a fan of the old trickle down economics that was promoted to us in the 80's but in football it is true.

When Chelsea bought SWP for a ridiculous price I was very grateful for the cash. It kept us a float for a while. I doubt Frank would have invested in us if we were a Championship club that season.

It's always good to have the view of other clubs' fans on here who can have a reasonable discussion, and I wouldn't want that to change.

But there is no doubt in my mind that Arsenal fans are the most arrogant around and they believe they have some god-given right to be successful. I have never met an Arsenal fan who can take a joke about their club, or get involved in a bit of light-hearted banter when it's about their club. Although rare, I even have a couple of United mates who I can do that with. I think part of their hatred of us is the fact that they regularly beat 'little old City' for years, particularly during the Henry/Pires days, and they can't stand seeing us not only move up to their level, but surpass them.

The way the Arsenal fans celebrated their 1-0 victory over us last season, it was like they had won the Champions League, and I have no doubt they will be going all out to beat us this weekend.

This is a crucial match for us and I really hope our players are up for it. In the game earlier this season we were dreadful and Arsenal played out of their skins, yet they could only get a 1-1 draw with us. We need to go to the Emirates on Sunday and impose our game on them. If we do that from the start, we will win.

I agree with the post mate. I have a lot of gooner mates and can generally argue my way around them using the same points in the post. I don't hate them. I love beating them, but I don't hate them.

Just wanted to say this to any lurking Arsenal fans whom may still be caught in the headlights of a self consuming hatred eating away regarding our oil money.

I started watching City in 1972 when we truly had some great players and football was a world away from what it is today. Somewhere between 1978 -1982 we lost our way and the rot set in and since then I and thousands of others have had to suffer, watch and support some incredibly poor footballers. Most of us have travelled the length and breadth of this country spending thousands for nothing more in return than a faint glimmer of hope that one day it would change. Other clubs were financed and had great luck with the timing of the Premier League and the cartel of the Champions League and the gap grew ever wider.

To all you Arsenal fans who are now outraged with our newly found wealth please understand this - This is the only one way other clubs can compete nowadays and your cosy 'big 4' got too cosy to notice that by keeping it all to themselves that one day somebody somewhere more powerful or more richer would eventually say 'f**k this we're having some of it'. So whilst you enjoyed your time in the sun, we floundered and just about kept afloat largely due to thousands of us turning up week in week out. Yes we was here when we were shit. Whilst you have never ever had to witness years upon years of some of the worst footballers you could ever imagine wearing your beloved clubs shirt. You have never ever had to watch your closest historical neighbours win everything in sight for 20 years non stop. Doubles/trebles, buying star after star footballers, having to endure 20 plus years of piss taking from the world's biggest set of C**tiest supporters. Having to listen to every pundit from China to Chinley spout on about how great they are. You have never had to grow up and listen to every footballer tell us 'it's their dream to play for United'. To have the Munich disaster held as some self righteous reason why everybody should hold a candle for that club. You have never had to hang onto a dream that one day just one day you could have some success instead of watching your club yoyo from division to division, to watch your club change managers so often it became almost a monthly event. You have never had to watch your club lose at home to their historical friendly lower league clubs like Bury and Stockport.

Our name has been dragged through the mud, kicked in the balls, laughed at from all corners yet one thing has remained constant through it all.

Us the fans...

So please forgive me and try not to take this too personally but I couldn't give a flying f**k as to what Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, United, Gillingham, Stockport, Bury and any other football club on the planet thinks about how we got the money or how we go about spending the money. Right now I couldn't give an Owl's hoot as to bringing through some unknown kid from some unknown club from some unknown village on the planet, nurturing him and watching him grow with us. I'll tell you why that is, because for years we've done that and clubs like your's used to come and take them off us when all the hard work had been done. You would lord it over us like some self righteous lord of the manor who was coming to take what was rightly their own.

So forgive me this one little pleasure as I will go on for the next 10 years loving it if we spend spend and spend some more to bring any silverware and I mean any silverware to my beautiful long deserved club and our supporters.

Seven years without a trophy...comeback when your near the 35yr mark and i'll start to have some sympathy

It's certainly interesting, I've gone from people asking with interest (almost sympathetically) why I follow City to hearing comments like "glory hunters all coming out of the woodwork" etc. Everytime I tell them my old man was from Manc and is a Blue it's like they're almost dissapointed that they can't label me a glory hunter.

I have been on your blue moon site and to be honest like your support it was pretty dire not a lot of banter and more of your fans saying you are going to lose than they are saying you will win.
Make the most of this small window of success you are having because it won't last Class is permanent and form isn't and like your form in Europe there is only one way you are going and it's not up. I must admit it is good that the plastics from across the way have had there noses blooded but I'm afraid it won't last.
The Arsenal are an institution and always will be one of the biggest clubs in world football, how many clubs still have 40,000 fans on a season ticket waiting list even after 7 barren years ?
We were used to winning trophies for fun and while it lasted it was great but in reality terms nothing ever lasts for ever ( apart from class) .
Some of the best times I have had supporting this great club were in the mid 70s when we did not win anything, this was because you were with real passionate fans and could laugh and cry win or lose and have banter etc. Nowdays it's full of tourists and corporate fans who do not understand the fundamentals of supporting your club.

That was at the time of Harry Enfield and "Loadsofmoney". I remember being at an Aldershot v Halifax match and a load of Aldershot waving money and doing the loadsofmoney thing. Think it was a pretty universal thing with southern fans against northern ones in Thatchers Britain.

Quite ironic a Woolwich Wanderers fan going on about history. Do you even know your own clubs history and Henry Norris as the original sugar daddy, or that City won their first major honour 26 years before Arsenal did? Probably not.

Class? Yes Arsenal certainly are second class thats for sure. Do your homework on your own club and tell me about those glorious first 30 odd years of Woolwich's history, before you then moved onto Spurs territory.
