Same shit.

Very different circumstances in my opinion. Leeds were going under and Newcastle weren't challenging at the time. In fact, hadn't Newcastle just been promoted?

I think the link between them 2 is that Cole was brought in (record fee at the time) to replace Cantona after his Kung-Fu antics.

You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

Both were amongst Utd's main rivals for the title & were willing to lose some of their biggest players to them without putting the players on the market & inviting a higher bid.

He's probably busy swatting up on Arsenal history. Someone should have told him to look under 'W' for the early years, he could be a long time.
So this is how it feels to be City,
This is what it means to stand tall,
This is how it feels when our club has no debt at all.

Sorry Ted, only just seen this through Mancio's reply. I have no doubt that there were things done behind the scenes but there were reasons other than that which took the players to the Rags. Leeds were in free fall the season United got Cantona and when he left they were well in the bottom half (knocked out of the CL early as well). Cantona was a cunt anyway which Leeds made a few quid on. From what I remember there was talk of when Cantona found out the Rags wanted him he kicked off and basically refused to carry on if he didn't get the move.

Cole was totally different. Newcastle had just come up and were doing really well (bit like last season to be fair) and United came in and paid a then British record for Cole's signature. United manipulated and bullied other clubs and you could say there was corruption but I believe it's totally different to the RVP signing from Wenger where I'd actually call it collusion.
