Kompany, conclusive pictures

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

The annoying thing about it is that Wiltshire is on his way down half a metre before he arrives at the challenge. You can see in the pics he's already over on his ankle, and giving the benefit of the doubt, I'll say he lost his footing.

Kompany shouldn't give the fuckers the excuse but I don't see where you draw the line. There was no contact with Wiltshire and if you remove him from the incident is what Vincent did out of control? No chance. Surely he has to make contact with the player. The only contact here is when Wiltshire falls on top in a heap. If there is no contact, then the ref has to say that he intended to injure the player, otherwise any sliding on the pitch is a red card regardless of player proximity.

Either there is contact or there isn't, it has to be that black and white.

I seem to remember Sagna doing exactly the same type of challenge in the first half and nobody said a thing.

exactly, look at the photos above it doesn't look like a lunge at all. It is a perfectly timed tackle. One i would be very proud to make too and i still play. that tackle in no way can be considered two footed either , look at when he gets the ball with his left foot . Where is is right foot ? .. where it is supposed to be , supporting his body.

No way is that ever a lunge ( see rooney in the CL against the danish team, i think . Or any number of cards that useless Wolves defender got last season. See the outrageous tackle on Samir that ultimately got him Red carded recently) those
are examples of wreckless and dangerous tackles. The ref got it badly wrong.

Why on earth do you think the ref was under pressure to even it up ? can't you see that the ref was basically crap yesterday ? why did he pull the game up when Wilshere went down injured? It was his own fault and it wasn't to his head, but that git of a ref stopped a great break chance for City. Which has happened often this season .

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has confirmed the club will appeal the red card Vincent Kompany received against Arsenal.

Kompany, 26, was dismissed in the 75th minute of City's 2-0 win at Arsenal by referee Mike Dean for a challenge on Jack Wilshere, although the Belgian won the ball.

The defender is set to miss the games versus against Fulham, Stoke City/Crystal Palace (in the FA Cup) and Queens Park Rangers.

But, speaking after the victory that kept his side within seven points of leaders Manchester United, Mancini said they will appeal the suspension.

"This is not a red card, absolutely not,'' he told Sky Sports. "He has one foot in and takes the ball. I think the referee made a mistake.''

Kompany later wrote on his official Twitter account that he has no plans to change his approach to tackling. He said: "First. Massive congrats to our team and fans, great game! Also. No grudges against the referee, I understand the difficulty of the job.''

He went on to defend his manner of making challenges, adding: "About the tackle: If the ball is overrun by the opponent and a 50/50 challenge occurs, collision is inevitable.

"Ultimately I'm a defender: Appeal may work or not. I will never pull out of a challenge, as much as I will never intend to injury [sic] a player.''

To be fair to the ref, in real time it quite probably looked like a two footed lunge, plus he was under pressure from the home crowd. One of those things, and other than that he had a decent game.
However, if that's not overturned on appeal we'll all know for certain that the FA are bent

Vinny jumped forward before he made the challenge, thus had both feet off the ground, but then he landed before Wilshire arrived & made a perfectly clean, controlled tackle & had his leg kicked from under him by Wilshire. The problem is, that nobody has told the robots in black how to interpret that.

The good thing is that most ex pros are coming out in public & backing him, so there's a small chance the gutless fucks will overturn it simply because of pressure.

Mike Dean was excellent otherwise incidentally.

The reality is that this sport needs instant replay for goal line questions and red cards. End of story. The game is too fast for human eyes at times.

A booth review of Vinnies tackle would have taken an extra 90 seconds in real life. No biggie. Modernization beckons.

Indeed, especially from the angle Dean was looking (straight from behind). If you only watch he tv footage from that angle, it does look like a nasty challenge.

Video replay doesn't fix things that are open to interpretation.

That's what the guy viewing the instant replay footage is for.

And if they could be trusted we'd all be confident of an appeal working.

We're not and for good reason
