I disagree with some on this thread with regards to the 'constant battle' against the press etc

I think the level of shit aimed at us has reduced significantly recently..probably due to the fact we won the league

Mikhail,
Sorry Mate but for me, this seems to work the other way round. Our silence seems to allow the rag media an unopposed free range to continually drag our name down. While the club offers no alternative view, there is a real danger that the negative reputation it creates becomes cemented and assumes a false truth.

I emphasise that we don't become a rent-a-gob club and nor should we diminish our integrity but though I see the merits of a dignified silence, there is also merit in a dignified public statement of our club's project and intentions.

Everyone knows about the Etihad Campus, only so many articles that can be done about it whilst it is still in the very early stages of construction.

Performances, results on the pitch and continuity off it with our squad and in particular our manager are key. These elements have been excellent for the last 3 years and our progression continues.

Also on the point of why we were taken over, whenever somebody mentions Abu Dhabi now it invariably comes back to City. Also Abu Dhabi is so much more well known of and availability of travel to there from England that it all seems encouraging on that situation aswell.

I note you found it necessary to post your view on this.
Would your silence have helped your cause?

I hope they're quietly going about their work ensuring we are FFP proof as well as planning the next phase of the project.

Hi John,

I greatly respect your viewpoint and I actually hope you are right in what you are saying and advocating.

I think, on this issue, only time will tell. If the Club remain as relatively silent as they are doing at the moment, for the next three or four years, it will be interesting to see how attitudes, towards us, will have changed by that time.

If there then happens to be no change in the way we are supposedly perceived, I'll have been talking out of the back of my head and sounding like a complete pilchard and perhaps the Club should have followed your advice all along.

Well maybe now it's about time we had some noise from the 3 silent ones?

I'd really like to know:
who the new manager is and when?
What is his brief?
When are we going to expand that fucking stadium?
What other commercial growth can we expect?
Who are we signing?

And what the fuck does 'holistic' mean in terms of a football manager?

I'd like to know what the two new boys have done in the last 12 months to deserve their huge pay packet that is deserving of pissing off our most successful manager in a class-less manner.

Cocacolajojo wrote:Our owner comes from a culture that in many ways lack a public sphere, so it might have something to with that. I don't know. They also don't like drawing attention to themselves, from what I understand anyway. Also, Whenever they interview khaldoon they don't show his entire body and it's impossible to get a read of his body language. Which is key.

I agree with the johns. Sometimes our passivity vis a vis the Media has cost us and it will cost us again. It's for example pretty clear from the speculation about guardiola that the media considers us fair game and that it's possible to create pressure on the management. That doesn't happen when it comes to united or arsenal. It has also happened less often since khaldoon started his yearly interviews. A firm but dismissive attitude versus media speculation would change things.

On the other hand, allowing the media some room for speculation also makes it easier for the board to sack the manager. Perhaps that's what they want.

What a foresight. And in january as well. You saw this coming didn't you?!?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
