Who can be our RVP? (Poll added)

Postby Alioune DVToure » Wed Feb 06, 2013 1:49 pm

There seems to be a general consensus that Robin Van Pillock has been the difference so far in the title race. If we could sign one player this summer with the ability to become our talisman, who would your choice be?

MINE

First choice: Gareth Bale.

Bags of pace and power, still young, an ability to play across the front line and a knack of scoring important goals. He's like a left-footed, less annoying Tranny. The heart celebration would have to go, mind.

Second choice: Luis Suárez.

Proven Premier League performer and the man to look to when nobody else in the team turns up. He's even gone some way towards sorting out his undeniably cuntish personality this season. He'd definitely do the business - I'm sure of that - and he'd be a great long-term replacement for Tevez.

Third choice: Radamel Falcao or Edinson Cavani

Both are tearing up their domestic leagues and have a great combination of raw power and pace, as well as all the instincts of a top centre-forward like Shearer or Shevchenko 12 years ago. I went and watched Falcao playing for Atleti a couple of weeks ago. He went off injured but looked the business up until he did.

Pace and belief. The two things we're sorely lacking.

Bale would be a weapon we don't already have but at the moment we look slow and nervous and I'm not sure RVP himself would sort that out.

Ronaldo would. But he's a cunt.
Messi would but that's a tough purchase.

It's starting to look like a new manager is what we need imo. Only "starting to" mind. I'll see at the end. I've learned that much from last season.

We've lost Mario and if we are to lose Carlos in the summer too, due to his contract situation, then we need to go for the best striker in Europe and that is Falcao. We should have had RVP but that boat has sailed.

On current form either Milner or Zaba, or he's pretty much on his own.

RVP is a shoe in for any top team given the service, we have no width and no Number 10, Silva floats about and is top draw but we need a 10 and a more attack minded approach Sign Bale, Cavani and Issco.

I deliberately gave a list of players who create most of their chances for themselves, especially Bale and Suárez. We need a player who can come up with something special when we're running out of ideas, just as the 2010-2011 Carlos Tevez frequently did. If you look at RVP's avalanche of goals over the last 20 months or so, most of them were from half chances at best (especially at Arsenal).

Look at the goals that Bale and Suarez tend to score. Very few of them are tap-ins at the end of a sweeping move.

i hope to fuck we did everything possible to trigger isco's release clause in january. if we did, and player didn't want to come, so be it. if we didn't, we are fucking stupid, because (1) it's obvious we are desperate for a player of his ilk; (2) his price is only going to go up; and (3) one of barca/real/bayern will lure him away unless we get in there fast.

I voted for Cavani as I feel he might be the one best suited to fit into our system with the minimum of disruption and doesn't come with the 'baggage' associated with Saurez.

However, I do feel that the prospect of getting any of the big names listed in this poll (or a number of other big names not listed), is perhaps somewhat academic as the burgeoning FFP stranglehold could rule out spending on such a large scale, together with the longer term level of wages involved, for the next few seasons at least.

It's not sufficient simply to finance any new purchases from the sales of outgoing players, as the budgetary deficit we still have has to be cut back.

Apologies for being so negative.

Falcao though is imo the absolute best header of a ball amongst all the big name strikers, & if we actually found someone who could deliver a ball, he would get on the end of it much better than Dzeko ever would. Dzeko is a bit of a ponce who needs a perfect pass to his head. Falaco throws himself in, times his jumps & has twice as much skill at heading.

Cavani is also exellent in that regard.

Both are better than Ed on the ground.

I don't think it's a good idea to rely on strikers to create their own chances personally; that should be a bonus imo.

Imo, we should have picked up Lllorente as a cheap plan B for this season. He would have fitted in with us much more than Balotelli & could have played alongside any of our strikers & would have created loads of opportunities for them.

Bale, would be sensational as long as Bob wouldn't try and turn him into a right winger. Has great pace, great shot and great delivery. WOuld cost probably 50 million or more but would be worth it.

Sorry Ted,

I'm still not convinced by Llorente as I don't really like his apparent/putative shortcomings and I think he's more suited to be a Stoke type player than a City one. Moreover, the possibility of "a cheap plan B" would suggest, to my own mind at least, a short-term mis-use of good money which might become progressively scarcer from now on.

Perhaps I'm still reminded of the words of Malcolm Allison, following his sacking after his second stint at City, when he ruefully reflected "I should have bought a dog in midfield but, you know me, I'd always want a dog that could win at Crufts".

My philosophy would be that if 'Plan A' wasn't functioning and succeeding, then you must work even harder to make Plan A come good in the future, so that you never ever need the diversion of a 'Plan B'. I also think this is the approach that Barcelona typify.

Falcao and Suarez. Or Cavani and....any 2 for me. All really good players that speak the same language and that of Kun too. And David.

It would be hard to complain if we ended up with either Cavani of Falcao, two of the best strikers about right now.Not sure what kind of money would be involved but i can imagine it would be in the region of 40 million plus to get Napoli or Atletico to even consider parting company.

Other than a goal scorer i really feel we need a player in midfield that can make things happen.Nasri so far has been hot and cold and i don't think we can afford that if we want to win the league.I would love either Mata or Cazorla but i doubt we could tempt either club to sell.Another player who would fit the part would be Mario Goetze and i would love to see us make a move for him.As others have mentioned Isco from Malaga would also be a good shout.
