I deliberately gave a list of players who create most of their chances for themselves, especially Bale and Suárez. We need a player who can come up with something special when we're running out of ideas, just as the 2010-2011 Carlos Tevez frequently did. If you look at RVP's avalanche of goals over the last 20 months or so, most of them were from half chances at best (especially at Arsenal).
Look at the goals that Bale and Suarez tend to score. Very few of them are tap-ins at the end of a sweeping move.
Falcao though is imo the absolute best header of a ball amongst all the big name strikers, & if we actually found someone who could deliver a ball, he would get on the end of it much better than Dzeko ever would. Dzeko is a bit of a ponce who needs a perfect pass to his head. Falaco throws himself in, times his jumps & has twice as much skill at heading.
Cavani is also exellent in that regard.
Both are better than Ed on the ground.
I don't think it's a good idea to rely on strikers to create their own chances personally; that should be a bonus imo.
Imo, we should have picked up Lllorente as a cheap plan B for this season. He would have fitted in with us much more than Balotelli & could have played alongside any of our strikers & would have created loads of opportunities for them.
Sorry Ted,
I'm still not convinced by Llorente as I don't really like his apparent/putative shortcomings and I think he's more suited to be a Stoke type player than a City one. Moreover, the possibility of "a cheap plan B" would suggest, to my own mind at least, a short-term mis-use of good money which might become progressively scarcer from now on.
Perhaps I'm still reminded of the words of Malcolm Allison, following his sacking after his second stint at City, when he ruefully reflected "I should have bought a dog in midfield but, you know me, I'd always want a dog that could win at Crufts".
My philosophy would be that if 'Plan A' wasn't functioning and succeeding, then you must work even harder to make Plan A come good in the future, so that you never ever need the diversion of a 'Plan B'. I also think this is the approach that Barcelona typify.

We need something different. Which is why I like Bale. Totally different from anything we have and would give us another dimension.

Having said that the current crop don't seem to be up to much. Neymar does look a bit of a wimp.
