Come on mate, there are flops everywhere. The Brazilians are just more noticable because of their transfer fees.

Yes, and you've hit the nail on the head there. The transfer fees are high because they look mint playing in certain other leagues, then turn into jibbering wrecks over here on the traditional wet wednesday at Scunthorpe, or in Robinho's case, any ground other than his own.

To date there have been something like 52 Brazilian players in the premier league. Of those, you can count on one hand those who have been a success. I would say the following have actually reached anything like the level of performance and consistency they were brought here for - and i'm being kind with some of these

Juninho
Gilberto Silva
Julio Cesar (although Gomez was a decent keeper for 6 months too before the wheels fell off)
Lucas (finally turning into a decent player after 5 years perseverence)
Ramirez
Oscar
Luiz
Alex

There are also the mincer twins at the swamp who look like they might manage a career, although they were trained over here and have been brought up in this culture so I don't think thats the same as buying a first team player.

Looks like the answer is, if you want a decent brazilian footballer, you need Chelsea's scouts. Thats a fucking sparse list considering there have been 52 brazilian players appeared in the premier league, if you take the chelsea lot out (who I don't believe are pulling up any trees for what its worth) and cesar who its too early to make a judgement on, you are left with Juninho, Gilberto and Lucas (and that one's debatable) out of 20 years of the premier league.

There have been a similar number of aussies in the league over the same time, but they have gone to clubs at transfer fees that reasonably befit their abilities, and have largely been reasonably successful at the level they played at.

And the fact that they are supposed to be brilliant.

These blokes are not the run of the mill Brazilian equivalent of Richard Jobson or Jeff Whitley, these are the ones who are considered the best from their country, who are good enough to travel accross the world & earn huge money.

Then when they get there, it's a few backheels & a few dives, a spell on the sub's bench & off to somewhere easy, where they can get paid for swanning around rather than having to work for it.

Our players, by contrast, are not considered good enough to be exported, but I bet James Milner or Micah Richards would put a fucking sight more into playing for Santos than Robinho or Elano did playing for us.

I thought the latest bunch may have a bit more about them but it appears not.

Neymar, tbf, is only young & may decide to put a bit more in now he's been shown up by Jack Wilshire & theo fucking Walcott, & Oscar did ok.

If Jose leaves Madrid in the end of the season, I feel Benzema will want out as well. I love that guy and think he'd be perfect for us.

Most of all we need play making help for Silva and replacement for Nasri. Who? I'm not sure. Tevez, Aguero and Dzeko are all more than capable of putting them away if we provide them with enough chances.

Would hate to see Suarez for us and I'm not sure how Bale would work in club like ours.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

So is elano considered a flop now?

I certainly disagree, he wasn't a massive fee, led us in scoring, never missed a pen and only left as Hughes fucked him around.

I think Bale would work but he's not a £50 mil player & Spurs want that for him. Benzema comes accross as another mentally frail fanny to me, who would be brilliant one week then miss an open net v the rags the week after.

I wish we could find the blokes who will replace all these characters though rather than just going for the current big names.

Chances are we'll all be wanking over the bloke Atletico are about to find in Guatemala or Chile, once Falcao has gone. In fact perhaps we should sign the bloke who signs their strikers & save ourseves a fucking fortune.

Agree about a Silva alternative, it is the big, obvious glaring hole along with another top cb. In fact I'd like 2 creative players, preferably who can also shoot, cross & score goals as it looks like Nasri will not be quite good enough & Silva blows hot & cold. If we sign one who scores, then we may not need another striker (if Guidetti gets the 4th job) unless Dzeko leaves. If we sign one who doesn't score goals, it will be a huge mistake imo. At least one of them should have pace as well.

It's not easy though, as Chelsea have shown. Siva is a grafter who will fill holes defensively & help the team shape & tbf Nasri works pretty hard off the ball. Most creative players don't.

Elano is the prefect example of the point I just made about Silva.

We need something different. Which is why I like Bale. Totally different from anything we have and would give us another dimension.

I agree. Sometimes we just need to stretch the game with some blistering pace out wide to create a gap between RB/LB and CB.

Please start spelling Aguero properly for the sake of my sanity.

In the past, I've never really pondered the possibility of City getting Bale, but this thread really does concentrate the mind and I'm finding myself warming to the thoughts of what he could do if he did come to us.

He certainly is different to what we already have and although it is claimed by some that he doesn't always turn it on against the top sides, that might not matter if he performed against sides like Everton, Sunderland, QPR, Swansea etc or, in other words, the type of lower side we always seem to find difficulty in beating, or we stumble against.

Just a pity he would cost too much to bring in.

There is no a player, he doesn't exist, that forward player, who would be able to help us with the way we play.
No matter who is he.
Because he wont get the chance. He wont get a decent pass, sometimes during the entire match, he often wont get the opportunity, becuase the ball wont come near him for minutes, tens of minutes, half time.
We are simply affraid to punch the ball upthere in the box. And nothing positive happens.

We need creative players, we need offensive wingers that can cross the ball, that can play with directness and clear purpose.

Than we can think about adding one or replacing other striker.
The most important thing for a forward is speed of thought. Top players read the game.

If you read my original post, I think you'll find you've missed the point slightly. I'm talking about talismen in general, not 29 year-old Dutch strikers.

I'm concerned that next season Chelsea will get Falcao as "their RVP" add to that Mourinho as manager and Fellani in their midfield and they will be a force to challenge for the trophies on all fronts.
Cavani is a devout catholic who apparently believes God led him to Napoli. He's an excellent player but I'm not sure how he will settle at another club.
Bale is a special player but Spurs will overprice him and I expect him to be drawn by the glamour of Spanish football.
I would never welcome Suarez at our club.
If I had to pick one it would be Falcao.

Falcao. We need a finisher. That's all we need really and that's all van persie is.

If we had someone that could find the net we wouldn't drop points 2 points to Liverpool, QPR, stoke etc.
