Roberto Martinez...time to step up

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Not at all, but it's worth considering. Football is a results business after all; ask West Brom fans how much consolation they drew from Tony Mowbray's insistence on 'nice' football when they got relegated a few seasons ago.

The thing with BFS@Bolton is that their style of play wasn't too dissimilar to how Mourinho's almost-all-conquering Chelsea side were playing, just with uglier and more limited players. There's nothing wrong with a direct and physical style unless it's taken to extremes, a la Stoke, at the expense of any football at all being played by either side. I used to envy Bolton during the 2003-07 period, and wished that our squad of club-hopping lemons had a fraction of their balls. Didn't you?

Martínez has made Wigan alright to watch, but other managers have done more over a similar period of time with comparable resources. Let's not get carried away coz he's an affable bloke. It remains more than likely that Wigan will win nothing and get relegated in May.

That made me chuckle.

I wss very jealous of Bolton during that period.

Martinez is a solid manager who is having his knob slobbed too much by the media and others but it doesn't change the fact that he is solid and I like him a lot. I hope he gets a shot in 3-4 seasons to manage a bigger club in some league somewhere. Cant say the same of BFS.

Well in Piccs, ever the opportunist.

I love the way you define a shit season mate. I can understand the escaping relegation in the last game or two being considered "rescuing a shit season"...but which bit of "WINNING THE TITLE" or "BEING 2ND IN THE BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD" is shit Pal.

Well if its a question of resources, I say Martinez does better with his resources than Mancini does with his

Have a look at the wage bills vs league position.....see if the theory i mentioned holds true

Agreed. The weakest squad not being bottom is a far better use of resources than the strongest squad not being top.

I suspect you're wrong, but if you're right, he's done a very good job of hiding it. I also wouldn't have a problem with a rag being on here, providing they were level headed and made valid points. I'm not sure that could happen though - I could happily post on a QPR forum, for instance, but I'd be on a complete wind up on a rag site and I suspect any rag would be the same on here.

Martinez is a good manager who could manage the right club at the highest level. No different from Guardiola or AVB who were given the chance at clubs with resources. He understands football. Establishing Swansea, keeping Wigan up and now to a FA cup semi final with limited resources is pretty good to me.

I remember a young Huddersfield manager being turned down by City because he hadnt done enough who then went to second division Liverpool and created a dynasty. Bill Shankly had even sold us Denis Law. maybe not another Shankly but I do rate Martinez and he is a nice guy too. Wished we had got him instead of Hughes except we wouldnt have been taken over by ADUG so no complaints.

Come Come Come John. I said "pulling a season out of the shit". And I stand by the assessment that after chucking a good lead away to an inferior side , in gutless fashion, the season did indeed need pulling out of the shit.

See Mate...you define it all by money...maybe you should blame Mansour for investing.

BTW...changing manager has little or no effect so why bother?
