This is a highly valid point, when people compare Hughes to taggart is laughable.

Taggart had a shagload of pots (as a manager) already in the cabinet.

St. Mirren (1974–1978)
Scottish First Division: 1976-77

Aberdeen (1978–1986)
Scottish Premier Division: 1979–80, 1983–84, 1984–85
Scottish Cup: 1981–82, 1982–83, 1983–84, 1985–86
Scottish League Cup: 1985–86
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: 1982–83
UEFA Super Cup: 1983

Now ive said give him till the New year BUT WILL PEOPLE STOP BRINGING THIS POINT INTO IT,IT'S NOT VALID.

Strachan's had a few of those pots too....

Lets get him!

Not with a club punching above as far above it's weight as Aberdeen were though? You can put different achievements into perspective. Sir Baconface at Aberdeen >>>> GMDT at Hoops by some way. Hard to put Hughes trophy wins into perspective...

You're dead right mate, it is hard to put them into perspective. Shame he didn't manage in a shitty league "back in the good old days".

Then we could make direct comparissons.[/quote]

If they were that shitty then they did extremely well to win European trophies. The Scum knew already that SBF had trophies in him. We cannot say that about Hughes.

I am still undecided. Sacking him now would not do us any good because I doubt we could replace him with anyone who is better and available on such short notice.

I have heard a rumour that we are actually seriously after O'Neil... I think I'd rather have O'Neil than Hughes.

But as it stands Hughes has until the end of the season for me, or at the very least until January. I wouldn't let him spend another penny though.

O'Neil would be huge improvement on Hughes and I'd take him in a heartbeat BUT there are question marks over O'Neil's ability to manage a big club (Celtic..... you must be having a laugh) with big transfer budget. O'Neil though is one of the most intelligent men in football and I do believe that he'd have the ability to adjust himself over time.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

One thing I really like about O'Neil (apart from the performance he gets out of his team which on paper is weaker in every department than our yet better) is that he kicks every ball.

He is constantly on the sidelines shouting instructions. The one thing I hate the most about Hughes that he always just sits there with his grump on and if anything it is Mark Bowen who talks to the players.

Depends on many things. If he is showing improvement then as long as he needs.

O'Neil is a good manager but he has a reputation for liking large squads. If he came here there would be the risk we would end up with crazy numbers of players. If we did replace Hughes I would also hope we would be going for a bigger step up. I am sure if people were to debate the pros and cons of Hughes and O'Neil there would be positives and negatives on both sides as the difference isn't that great. Any Hughes replacement should a major European name.

For me Oneill woild have to acheive something with Villa and MH this job came too soon. If he`d have done somebody like souds or sunderland for a few years first...you never know. And of course those comments are made with all due respect to those teams.

Seems to be 50-50 right now. What is real worry here is the fact that 50% of people are willing to give him boot meaning he doesn't have even nearly full support of supporters.

That said, as we have learned during Hughes tenure, football supporters are ficklest of people and few good results will get 20-30 of yes people on board again.

NQDP - I disagree with your latest analysis on this poll.

First of all, for whatever reason, this the percentage on this board in relation to support for Hughes has always differed greatly with larger polls or indeed general concensus at the games.... so I'd say you're off when you say that HALF of City supporters don't support the manager.

Also, you then mention that "what we've learned during hughes tenure" is that football fans are fickle??! It didn't take Hughes to tell any fan that. Win and we're happy, lose and we're pissed off. That is the way of the football fan.

Just because you say to yourself and the rest of us that you have "now lost patience and want him gone" doesn't mean a lot at all really because people who state the likes of that may spout all over the board, but at the end of the day, he'll be here until the owner decides and when we win you'll still be happy and when we lose you'll repeat that you want him gone.

If being happy when we win and being unhappy when we lose is fickle then all of us are in the same boat... polls like this will change of course, because (hypothetically) to say "I don't want him here just because we've won all these games in a row" is worse than fickle IMO.

don't want to be a knobhead but I wonder if there should have been a 4th option: "I never wanted him". I then wonder if we wouldn't have 4 near equal sets of votes?
What the poll is currently showing is that after 7 draws 58 (ish) internet users with varying degrees of City history would sack him.
How many of those have a view impacted by his performance, and how many by his background?
I do think it's a shame that "half the board" seem to want him out but that will keep the threads interesting so long as we put our points as rationally as we can and make allowances for those that think differently.
