They were fantastic/fantastically opportunistic, but the fact remains they bottled their best chance of European football last week. The celebration was completely over the top and a little embarrassing. I resent fans who use the phrase small time, but it does seem applicable there.

Strange though that the media are saying that Everton were magnificent. Were they? I thought their effort was very good but from a football point of view they weren't much.Just overall better than City based first of all on being better organised ( we were a joke ) and then the commitment. How many saves did Joe Hart actually make?

Now you can see what we're up against when we play Everton. For that sort of out-pouring there must've been some real motivation running through that squad.

Everton were workmanlike nothing more. We played just like we did at OPR, Villa & southampton.

Just posted on the other thread about their reactions though.

Ridiculous & the actions of proven failures.

I agree there Doug. Just looked at the stats and out of the 12 shots they had only 3 were on target with (us - 20 shots, 8 on target). We even came on top with the possession stats which can be swayed a little with the sending off.

The commitment bit cannot be emphasised more. They gave everything and were more than happy to leave a foot-in for the cause.

We played Everton mate, at theirs. I was optimistic that we'd win and was hoping for a real thrashing of them but after seeing the line-up that optimism faded. The first half was gash and regardless of tactics we couldn't even pass a ball. The second half a little different and with the sending off I thought we'd get the chances. Definate penalty denied and their last goal was nothing of consequence.

Bad day at the office for all concerned, but did show what a game against us means to the likes of Everton who are realistically playing for fuck all.

I agree completely, completely embarrassing reaction from all involved, not that I'm being bitter, but really does show how much Everton think of themselves as a club these days. I've always marked them down as one of our toughest games each season.
Admittedly they are nothing special but they will kick the Crap out of you for 90 mins to try and go on and nick a win (which they have done quite successfully to us over a few seasons now)
Moyes, the players, the fans and most of all the chairman (wiping away a few tears, get a grip) should be ashamed as should we with our shitty performance and bobbins finishing

100% effort beats us at Everton again who yes relsish playing us. Ref fails to give us a clear pen, however a dire performance, IMHO if that was a home fixture it would have been a comfortable home win. Shite start to a weekend.

By Moyes reaction and the out-pouring from everybody involved it's pretty clear that they see us as one, if not thee, biggest scalps in football. I'd put it down to the little and large(ss) with regard to both clubs. Everton used to be a big fish who have fallen from where they think they belong. We are the upstarts who have gone ahead of them in every sense and in reality, there's no real way they will catch us up, long term as well.

Their motivation comes from their own inabilities to compete at the highest level and the Lescott purchase only fuelled that fire. Moyes drills it into them that David really can bring down Goliath and I'm sure he'll have a bottle of fine wine winging its way from the Swamp as we speak.

They never beat Liverpool anymore so I suppose we provide a good pantomime villain. It is a strange reaction in that it's a result they can practically pencil in when the fixtures are released, as common as it is now for them to beat us.

Of course, the great thing about it is that the celebrations never have to take place if we just turn up and start beating them for a change. Maybe, just maybe, if OUR players also treated it like a cup final that would happen more often. Ah well, guess we'll never know.
"Certainly our programme is a full one, but as a player and as a manager I've always felt that there is only one way to go into a season...and that's to try to win every game.... While we are in four major competitions we shall try to win four major competitions." - Joe Mercer
