Should that even matter? These types of rules put a lot of pressure on the refs completely unnecessarily. I mean, even if the ref stood 10 centimetres away and saw it and still deemed it to be a non offence, it should still be punished retroactively.

In this incident the ref was only 10 yards away , even if his view was slightly obscured by another player he would still see the Wigan player had two feet off the ground . The linesman was a similar distance away and had a perfectly clear view , he chose to say nothing and do nothing . The fourth official has a tv monitor and is wired up to the ref and would have seen ALL angles of the horrendous tackle ...... again he chose not to intervene ? All this leaves the officials wide open to critisicm ranging from being totally inept despite earning big money , having agenda,s or being bent ! Alarmingly the FA came out with some cock and bull propaganda last night defending themselves and throwing the whole issue back to the officials because the officials DIDNT SEE ANYTHING !!!! this in itself is hugely alarming .
I can see Newcastle FC taking this all the way if their player is seriously injured and the sports barristers etc etc will be queing up to fight there case.
