That really surprises me. I know you've mentioned before about a lot being 'closeted', but I'd have thought there were a few openly g4y women playing. Is homos3xuality as much of a stigma in the women's game, or is it more to do with personal/family life that people don't come out?

Yeah some are not all the way with family and stuff so don’t say anything, some have been told by certain quarters not to say anything about their sexuality and others just keep to themselves. I came out as I wanted kids to have someone they could look at and see its ok to be gay. I also wanted to do more around supporting parents of kids that come out as its also a pretty confusing time for them. Some family members/parents don’t know how to act or what to do. I wish someone would have been there for my Mum.

Isn't Hope Powell openly gay?

Its ok to take the piss out of some bloke if he wears a pink shirt say in the away end and fans call him homophobic names, imagine if as fans we did the same if he was black?? I have heard stewards call dykes and all sorts stood at City and no bats an eye lid, call someone because of the colour of your skin you would get arrested. I’m sorry but that’s wrong. What’s banter and what’s not??? Is it acceptable to call people homophobic names and that be ok as its “banter”??
I actually totally agree on that, despite my childish comment above.
The issue isn't really whether Albion fans are insulted or not, it's the fact that homosexuality is used in a derogatory manner that is.

No not at all. I am in a minority.

The way I see it is that there would be very few occasions that somebody who is gay would be spotted as different because of how they looked.Being offered to be paki bashed because of people looking at me is something I don't think many gays have been subjected to.Hearing a few hundred people make monkey noises ain't to pleasant either.
No doubt Homophobia is horrible but I don't think it as deep seated as racism.

Does your boyfriend know you`re here is probably a poke at the perception of Brighton rather than being aimed to offend a particular person in the crowd ie winding the people of Brighton up in general and chipping away at their own pride in their City.
I can see in the near future Liverpool/Neverton complaining about the scouse songs we all sing including the people who have posted in this thread that think we can see you holding hands is homophobic.
The problem with this kind of chanting is best summed up by this: when a white person uses the "N" word it`s racist when rappers such as NWA use it it`s not
Why?
Answer..What the intentions are, simple as that.
I do not find/think the title is homophobic, intends to be homophobic or otherwise just witty...but i`m not gay.
You scouse bastard is offensive but no one stops us singing that. Scousers are a race of people who come from a certain area, dress a certain way, talk a certain way so can and are victimised at football grounds for where they are from..

The problem is people will use the term gay as a derogatory term. It was certainly seen that way when I was at school and I don't think a lot has changed for many people. You (not you personally, but someone) may not call a gay person gay, but may tell a mate 'they're being gay) because they're being a bit wimpy. Or things which aren't very good may be referred to as being gay. In that context, I can see why someone who was gay would object to it being used against them.
No one would call someone not from Liverpool a scouser as a derogatory term. Unless they were a plastic scouser from St Helen's.

You scouse bastard is derogatory...scouser isn`t. You gay bastard is, but we can see you holding hands isn`t in my view. It`s a case of an establishment telling a minority group how to feel offended..YET AGAIN.
