This was really the first time in his career he failed anywhere. He made the ridiculous mistake of going to team he supported himself. That always ends in tears in football management. You have too grand of dreams.
He is tired and too old to generate levels of energy as he once did. He needed good new people around him and to take more of an overseeing role. Cloughie did that but O'Neill didn't learn and is probably too hands on. The difference between a manager and coach. Dreams rarely come true, which is why they are dreams.
