2nd wins nothing

They don't give a trophy for second place.

Just a clarification for some.

2nd wins you a chumps league spot. So does third. Fourth gets you in a playoff for a chumps league spot.

No, you don't get a trophy. But you do win something pretty substantial.

It also wins the club quite a large amount in prize money.

We're not going to win something every year.

We probably are going to win something this year.

No shame in finishing second.

We are in danger - as fans - of becoming exactly like the darksiders.

The difference is this, 16-17 other teams in the PL would give their right arm to be in the position we are in, by we are not one of those teams that aims for a place in the table, for example arsenal and spurs. Their aim is to be in the top and that spells success for them.
We on the other hand aim for that top spot and this season we failed and failed quite badly.
The only good thing out of all this is the fact we will finish runners up and win the FA cup in a season we quite frankly haven't played well. We can only improve next season.

And that is where the problem now lies in football, it's a fact that teams would rather qualify for the champs league than say win the FA cup or Europa league. For me the champions league has under mind the greatest club cup competition in world football and that makes me sad. Would players not rather have a medal around their neck or would they rather say to te kids and grand kids "hey I qualified for the champions league in 2013" wow.......all about the money eh.

i blame the rest of the premier league, lieing down when the scum play them and some of the performances against the rags are truely abysmal, eg QPR v CITY a team that absolutely gave it all, QPR V Rags just fuckin llet them run riot.

This ^^^^

Let's not forget our roots chaps and chapesses a few seasons ago we would have snapped an FA cup final appearance up as a miracle never mind winning that and the title

Yes expectation goes up as we win more and spend more but surely it's better to be in the position we are in now than fighting Wigan and villa to avoid that last drop spot

Neither does 3rd or 4th yet the rest of the league see it as a trophy. Go figure.

You mean 'Rag minded'. Shame that a few have got above themselves and now sneer at somebody like me who tries to get a little perspective.

I'm now 'mentally weak' or 'small minded' because I don't cry when we lose a game or don't win the league. I do wonder sometimes, where this 'winning mentality' comes from.

I blame Mancini.

mmm
Taggart, who this morning is being feted as a god, has has come second or lower in 14 of his 27 years.
This, while enjoying financial dominance over the vast majority of his tenure
He has won less than we expect to win this season the same number of times, more than half his attempts
Do we (no matter how reluctantly) consider him a winner?
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

The FA Cup in 2011 gave me two of the happiest days on my life that I would not swap for anything. It’s so sad that the FA Cup now holds no value and is regard as micky mouse (you will hear this a lot if we win it). As a child my fondest memories of football were watching the FA cup and the whole day build up. I know City we not involved but I just loved the day, showing the players on the coach weaving their way to the stadium and all that. All that is now lost forever. What with 5.15pm KOs and it no longer being the last game of the season, all tradition has gone.

Gary Neville said something like this in the beginning of the game at WHL: You can't win the title every year, that's just how it is, but I think they'll win the FA-cup and by doing so, they'll keep the momentum going which is what they (the owners) want. They want trophies."

You know it is a strange world indeed when Gary Neville seems to be pro-city in comparison to basically everyone else in the world of UK sports journalism.
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

I don't think that's a fair assesment of the importance of CL. You have a point that's a bit weird that people actually celebrate coming fourth rather than fifth and yes, it has a lot to do with the money. But, the CL is also about squaring off against the best teams and players in the world, at least for me as a fan. I love seeing City play in the CL regardless of the money.

I do however agree with you that the league is and should be top priority for the team and I do think it is. However, you could also see it as we finished runner's up (not finished yet though...) and then got the added bonus of playing in the CL.

So in summary, I sympathize with your view but find it a bit too simplified and skeptic.
