"Memorable" games you've been to

Postby BlueinBosnia » Thu May 02, 2013 2:26 pm

Probably one for the less-regular attendees...

Which games from yesteryear do you see being talked about on here that you were at, and you instantly think "I was there"? I'm not talking about the famous wins (the 5-1 or playoff final, for example), but the ones where something terrible - like the Pollock own goal - happened.

For me it's the game where Edghill basically ended his career with us, the defeat to Coventry. I remember him walking off, being booed, and feeling really sorry for him - he'd lost all confidence and it seemed he knew there was no way he'd redeem himself in the club's or the fans' eyes.

losing 1-0 at home to wet spam when keegan done brooking a favour. Was gutted, travelled all the way up with all the family, sat in the Gene Kelly stand to watch a shitty half arsed performance.

Boxing day, Stoke away 1988. The day we took over a town with inflatables and a party atmosphere on every street corner. Think among us we had an inflatable Parrot, skelaton and the infamous banana. Got hammered 3 - 1 but dont think the score stopped anyones enjoyment. I will never forget that day, ever.

The 10 - 1 over Hudds to. First time I ever saw City and was in away end. Only a young kid. 'That' game made me fall in love with Manchester City!

I think it was Bournmouth at home and promotion getting closer. 3 nil up at half time and getting ready for celebrations and it finished 3.3! Is that right for typical City as was?

Battering utd something like 4.1 at home with Nelly scoring from near the front row of the Kippax.

Cardiff away in the FA cup. I can't remember the exact year, think it was 93/94. It was fucking horrible, lost 1-0 and it probably had one of the most violent atmospheres of any match I'd ever been to. On the plus side I went straight to Gatwick after the match and spent 2 weeks in Florida.

This was like the wild west - proper moody atmosphere all day long. Remember Curle bottling his penalty & that kid Ricketts(?) who went to Bolton scoring their winner. Also remember Cardiff coming onto the pitch & running towards the away end & Phelan being the only player to stay on to come through the Cardiff fans to applaud us

Half time standing ovation for Arsenal when they'd gone 4 nil up in about 20 minutes at ours.

Goalless draw in the League Cup at Adams Park (1995). A long way home.

David White being hounded to the point he couldn't trap a ball at Hillsborough

Psycho's last ever game against Pompey, at the end of our DIvision 1 winning season under Keegan. We were shouting at him to shoot every time he touched the ball as he was on 99 career goals. We were already out of sight when the game went into injury time, and then we got a penalty. Up stepped Pearce. He had a little chat with Dave Beasant in which they both appeared to be laughing and Beasant seemed to indicate that he would let the penalty in. Psycho blazed it over the bar and fell to the floor, half pissing himself and half devastated. I tell this story all the time and have been made to feel like I imagined it - I feel like it should be a far more famous story considering the player and his penalty history.

Another one for me, although not one particular game: In our title-winning season, I managed to make it to 2 games. We lost both. I bet not a lot of people can claim that.

Didnt get to the game and on the day the reception for GMR had gone. So me and Steve drove over tops to a car park by some resevoir to listen to the game. We were praying for a pen so he could step up and get that 100th goal. Lol. It were comical to say the least.... Typical city! ;-)

Ipswich & Bradford away 88-89 season for very different reasons!! Ipswich away when Bill Williams made his only appearance for us ("There's only William Williams!!") and Bradford for the sheer euphoria after nearly fucking promotion up big style (missing countless chances and Whitey putting it across for Trevor Morley to slide in and stick it in) to get us back up there. That match summed up being a City fan for me!!

Nathan Blake, Got he goal mate Wild West great way to describe the day, everyman for himself that day, All the shite we gave away fans came close to being payback that day, Do you remember the cheeky bastards turning up at our ground sitting in the North Stand, we were playing Bolton or some other team, they had a cancelled fixture. Chaos after the game outside.

My first game was in 1989 when I was 7.

Of all games it was against Millwall at Maine Road and we won 2-0. I don't remember who scored the goals, all I really remember I'd having a 6ft inflatable banana and having to sit on the steps because the stand was full.
After that we left pretty quickly - I just thought that was the norm, until in later life, I realised they were scrapping after the game.

In 2005-06 under Pearce we lost 1-0 at home to Bolton. We were superb, hit the post and bar seven or eight times and then Gary Speed svores a 90th minutw penalty and we lose the game

At the Etihad a few years back in a cup game against Leeds. The only time I've ever sat front row, right behind a corner flag. Took my cousin (his first game) and we came to the conclusion that City were an oxymoron.. Rich, but oh so poor! Think we won 1-0 and it was the worst game of football I have ever seen! That and the realisation that I wasn't getting my customary half-time fag on one of the spirals.
