I really like Martinez. What a gentleman he is.

Spot on mate. I was listening to the Martinez interview on the way back from our poor defeat of WBA on Tuesday. Even after their devastating loss to Swansea he was courteous and really positive for their survival. I'm sure the team love him for that and it is only with such deep respect for such a manager that you get a team performing with all their hearts in big games like today.

I wonder what our expensive players really think about Roberto Mancini deep down.
Is there a similar respect and desire to do well for this Roberto as the other one?

Normally, they should ignore rumours, otherwise they'd constantly be responding to every crackpot journalist. However, yesterday was different.

For a start, it came from betting patterns with bookmakers closing the books on Pellegrini, which then caused journalists to write stories about it.

Add to that, it was cup final day and yet all the talk was of another manager. If there was no truth, yesterday was the day to come out and announce it, so everyone could concentrate on one thing.

The silence, and Mancini's after match comments answers the question.

The disgraceful way some suck up to Mancini here sums up the immaturity and ignorance of some city fans.

Don't agree with that, but it's just as sound an argument.

Yeah some people suck up to Roberto but I don't mate. I have City first not Roberto. If however, recognising the fact that Roberto has actually delivered Cups and Titles is called 'sucking up' then i suppose I am guilty as charged. He's delivered. I think we all owe him that much in respect.

Technically Cup and Title.

I'm actually less bothered about what he does or doesn't win. It doesn't bother me that we didn't win the CL for example, as the team clearly isn't good enough yet. Doesn't bother me that we lost yesterday - anything can happen in a one off game and you can dominate for 90 minutes and lose to a free kick.

It's more to do with progression. In the semi in 2011, we seemed to learn something about 30 minutes in - namely that we were better than the rags. From that point on, we were a different team, full of self belief, which we took into last season. Yes, we had a wobble under pressure last season, but we came back strong late on and looked like that team again.

This season, it's gone. Only in occasional patches have we ever looked anything like the team we were. Regardless of the poor summer signings, we only lost AJ and de Jong from last season, who were bit part players, so why have we gone backwards? I'd suggest that teams have worked out how to beat us and, so far, we haven't worked out a way which stops them or an alternative way to play.

The odd thing is, we still look pretty good against the top teams. It's the 'lesser' teams we seem to look clueless against. So is it formation, personnel, desire, attitude?

If Mancini knows the answers (and the answers aren't buy me de Rossi and Canvani) then I'd be tempted to give him another season to prove himself, especially as the alternatives aren't obvious. If he hasn't got a plan for sorting it, then he should go now.

Some embarrassing posts in this thread.Fair enough it's been a difficult season after the highs of last season but he has developed a winning mentality at the club, something no other manager i have seen at the club has managed to do.Some of you sound like spoilt rags.

Stories in Times, Telegraph and Independent in last half hour all suggesting Mancini will be sacked this week, possibly before Reading game.

None are quoting any sources or each other, which looks very much how the Taggart out stories appeared. Looks like an off the record briefing to avoid the problems around the Hughes sacking where the press were caught out and didn't like it

I think he has done all he can with us now. I like that guy but this year has been majorly disappointing.

I was there yesterday. Myself and thousands others spent a fortune and all we got was that disgraceful performance. Of course not all his Mancinis fault but as manager the buck stops with him. It was dreadful in every sense. The players seem to have given up on him.

Thanks for everything bob, truly. But it's time for a change.

If he is going which is looking likely the least he deserves is a bit of fucking respect from the fans for what he has achieved at the club.

We really need to improve our replacing of managers. This is just as bad, or even worse considering it was the FA Cup final, than when we replaced Hughes.

What's wrong with waiting till summer to replace managers rather than leak it 24 hours before a footy match.

That is exactly the reason why city executives kept quiet till now, but Barcelona are after Pellagrini now so the hurry

All over twitter that he's been sacked and pellegrini is taking over - looks like its going to be a long summer

A shame for Mancini - but in an exhibition of all his faults yesterday he has made this an easy decision

So - a new dawn

All the journalists seemed to say the same thing at the same time. Either we've just pulled off the biggest April Fool's in football or they've been briefed by the club.

I suspect the timing isn't what we'd have wanted, but after it was leaked from Spain on Friday, they've got to do something. I suspect he'll be gone in the morning with Kidd kept on (who was appointed by the club whilst Hughes was still there)
