I was too fucking depressed to write anything during or right after the game ... well I still am actually ... can take losing a cup game if at least they had turned up and played, fought for it, but they just never even started ... that's the hardest to digest!

Exact thought had occured to me at half time. We just didn't seem to be at the races...

Everything smelt wrong about that performance.

What I don't get is how scared our players were to take on their players. Get 1-on-1 and have a go. Mcmanamum was the only one doing this. If a half a dozen game no name can do this why can't any of our stars?

Fair play to Wigan.

Our support was magnificent and a sight to behold , I just felt really let down and staggered how we could put such a flat performance when we have been outstanding in the previous rounds.

But congratulations to Wigan they played with great pride, passion and desire.

Anyway, onwards and upwards there will be plenty more days like these but we will be celebrating rather than tasting defeat.

I know that people are saying we were shit but I didn't see it like that. I actually thought it was a fairly balanced game where we had the better chances. Their keeper (Robles, I think) made quite a few excellent saves, from Tevez, Yaya and Nasri to mention a few, and I can't remember Joe having to make a save all game. In fact, apart from a couple of last ditch tackles I don't think they even had a shot on target (apart from the goal of course).

Wigan gave 100% effort and are worthy winners but I wouldn't say we were shit, we were equal in all respects and had far the better chances.

Agree with your assessment my friend. The point being with our squad agains their squad it should not have been a fairly balanced game. We should have been all over them.

We had more possession, more shots at goal, and more corners.

Excellent points there fellas and it is slightly worrying how quite a few of them on the pitch just do not show the bottle and commitment required in certain matches. Don't know what the answer is as I have calmed down now after the match whether it being the manager to be replaced or a reasonable dip into the transfer market to encourage competition for 1st team places as there seems to be none at the moment.

I think the one thing that did slightly surprise me yesterday was that he did not start with Dzeko or Milner as both tend to excel against Wigan. But hey ho, we will be back and all the stronger for it next season.

These three quotes sum up for me, how it was yesterday. I think we should have started both James and Edin at the expense of Gareth and Merlin. Merlin is just playing well at the moment.

Ian Bishop played pretty well so I do believe gays can play football to answer your question.

Strange game altogether. We were so lethargic but, in spite of that, I thought we should have had a penalty in the first half and could possibly have had a second.

I also thought things looked to be improving a little when Milner and Rodwell came on but then poor old Zabs got his marching orders. It just seemed a sad way for his outstanding season to finish.

With regard to the goal, I haven't watched any replays so I just don't know but was Joe's positioning faulty in any way, could he have made a better effort at saving it or was he just unlucky ??

As I said, I just don't know so I'm not trying to needlessly apportion blame and this is just an honest question but, from a goalkeeping perspective, was that header saveable ??

Perhaps Sis could give us her thoughts on this.

It was past him before he moved.

It was preventable by winning the header, c.f. Ajax at home.

I am glad you two have said this. For a moment I thought I had imagined us controlling large portions of the match and their goalie having a very good game, but clearly I did not. Problem is you have got to put your chances away when they come.

Or chance (singular) in Wigan's case.

Might have been a typo and he actually meant to write 'guy' (trying to give him the benefit of the doubt)
