I'm not one for conspiracies but I can't help thinking that the timing of this announcement has been considered purposefully to coincide with our possible final victory...

Yeah, but that's basically because Everton supporters are living under some illusion that they are or have been somewhat competitive team in past twenty years. Gollum from what I have seen at Everton doesn't have the winner's mentality. Bacon Face had already broken the Old Firm dominance in Scotland and even had European experience before he joined them.

It's possible he's a late developer, but the top guys, including Mancini, had won several things at that age.
