But what were they, and what are they for the next manager?

I bet the owners wanted a more sustained title defence and a major trophy.

Not beyond the realms of possibility and Mancini failed at both.

I feel this question has been answered.
But anyway, a sustained title challenge. Not being out of the title race by Christmas.
And getting more than 3 points in the CL will be nice.

it must have been to try (real hard) to defend the premier league and have good go at the CL.

The way all parties treated the FA cup final, I supposed it wasnt a big deal to anyone, except to zaba and nasty.

What is a major trophy? It's clear now that they were planning to sack him even before the FA Cup final regardless of the outcome.

It's Champion's League isn't it. I suppose that's the main competition now.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

And me, and 31 000 Blues in Wembley I would assume.

CL qualification plus a trophy or a title, since they waited until after the FA cup to sack him. (Or possibly a trophy plus a title with no CL qualification).

Put up a title defence would of been one objective.

Get out the group in CL would've been another

Decent cup run and qualify for CL.

We did the last 2 but how much does being shit in Europe cost the club in revenue and marketability

City with more hunger more of counter , faster City ,City with plan B and C .Title challenge, go from Group stage in CL, and FA cup in targets.
You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

I've been saying this for ages. The riches on offer in the CL have been missed out on. This year's feeble effort cost the club well over twenty millions and has made it harder for next season.
That matters.

I'm fine with targets. I think they should be straightforward about them though which I believe is the point of this topic.

I also understand that FA Cup doesn't mean as much to these new people in Club, and probably to lot of new supporters, as it does to me and probably lot of other people who have followed football for a long time.

I think the unmet, unspecified targets were a convenient excuse. We've been listless for too long and Mancini seemed more interested in pulling his face than knuckling down. I like him and he shouldn't have gone, but he did himself no favours with his attitude.

All I wanted this season was progress rather than neccessarily winning trophies but we have actually gone hugely backwards. I've found it soul destroying personally. We really should have been a lot better considering what we have to work with.

I'll settle for improvement next season; just playing better.

That's true as well. Stubborn guy he was, he just went on a full scale civil war in the end rather than concentrating on sorting the football side out. To be fair, he probably (rightly?) assumed that with FA Cup and League Title he had bought enough leverage to go on such war. He just didn't realize that he was odd man out to begin with after Barcelona lads had moved in.

We showed signs of the players not being behind him quite early in the season - I think I got shot down for mentioning it (not surprising since it was a gut feeling more than anything substantial).

The way the statement reads it actually looks like we were looking for far more than I expected. The 'Any' piece leads me to believe we should've been contending in all competitions and the 'Holistic' view means that we were also expecting a few of the youngsters to come to the fore.

Moving on though, what are the next managers remits, will the same expectations be put in place or will he get time to mould the team into what he wants?

When Mancini came in when we were still in first phase of getting competitive squad together. However this team as already won the league. The core is there and it's still pretty young. After these comments about expectations I expect either League title or Champion's League trophy. That's the bare minimum. That's where the bar is set now.

I thought this thread was going to be about THE NEW MANAGER as I would have thought raking over the coals of Bobby's cremation is futile now that he has gone? So thanks Beefy for steering the thread where it should be............ THE NEW MANAGER

It is clear that CL is the ultimate goal, PL second and the FA Cup is not to be bothered with at all.

THE NEW MANAGER I hope gets a similar group in the CL as we got last year, that should go a long way to proving to me that the likes Picc's etc were right, SHOULD he get us past group stage that is.

In the Prem, there is only ONE ACCEPTABLE ANSWER and that it is to win it, solely based on the fact that the rags theoretically won't be in it with Gollum at the helm and if true Mourhino isn't going to be at Chelski because Abromovich has refused to pay £17M to buy him out. Wenger is washed up, if any thing if Spuds keep hold of Bale and get a decent replacement for Ade then I would have them down as potentially our biggest threat next season.

FA Cup will only bee seen as a target if the new manager fails on the above two counts then Tkixi and his bum chum will accept that if for nothing else to save their own face.

By getting rid of Booby, the club have clearly set out their stall out. If the new manager does not make the semi's in CL and deliver the Premier title then I fully expect him to go, taking the Spanish pair that employed him as well!!

The club have raised the stakes not me!!
