seeding the top 8 teams and doing a double legged playoff until the final would generate some fucking amazing matches and awesome revenue. New kits for the playoffs? Check. all matches at night? check. Trim down the league to 34 matches and do a playoff for the "winner" and you'd have something really really exciting.

Fancy playing Everton or Spurs right now? It would be amazing fun.

Criminal or sacrilege to some i'm sure, but i'm just telling you how the American in me feels....it'll happen eventually to pull you cunts out of the middle ages, so just don't cry like bitches when it does.

cheers

I don't know whether that's written tongue in cheek or not but I couldn't disagree more! I would have the current system over that every day and twice on Sundays.

I mean if you go down that route then I'd just go straight to the playoffs as the league games are fucking pointless. It would be like playing all the time games like we have next Sunday, absolutely no matter who wins or loses.

Also, you can win every game in the league (incl. playoffs) until the final but lose there and you get nothing even tho you've showed it throughout the season who is the best team.
On the other hand it gives a lesser side to win something but then I ask again - why bother playing at all the first 75% (?) of the season?

it does make some matches count less, but here's the thing that i like about "Playoffs"....it creates really fun matchups, yes a la Cups, that create some romance. And the seeding creates drama so teams will play and jockey for the right matchups. i am NOT being tongue in cheek or a funny cunt, but just offering an outsider's view about how the game may change over the next 10 years.

I'm telling you that at some point, when the top 4, or 3 or 5 or whatever have the league even MORE stitched up than they do now, and they will soon, then clubs like Everton, Villa, Sunderland, etc etc will beg for some changes to the league format to allow them a chance to win the league again. It's bound to happen isn't it?

Don't we get a 10 point deduction for sacking a manager?

I see where you're coming from as I used to watch quite a lot of ice hockey when I was younger.. But even then it was pretty much the same for me as it is these days with NHL:
The playoffs is where I really step up my interest and even stay up to watch some big mid night matches as the playoffs are nice.. But how sad is it that during a normal full season it's only in around March I really take a look at the league tables. -> why bother playing for five months?

In fact recently I've been playing around with the idea of introducing football-esque league system And cups to ice hockey and that would IMHO make the league more interesting! With the addition of a nationwide cup, maybe take the AHL leagues in too?

But, especially with the FFP rulings, you may not too far from the truth.
I am just praying that someone would A) make bold enough decisions to actually improve the Smaller clubs chances in England (and Europe) and B) actually find a solution how to do this :)

One year on from the greatest goal of the greatest run-in of the greatest season in club history and you're thinking "can't be having that again; we need league playoffs."

"Balotelli...Aguero scores here and City have recovered to clinch the #1 seed."

Give your head a wobble Doomie. Some of us fell in love with football precisely because it's an escape from the playoff-obsessed American sports.
"Certainly our programme is a full one, but as a player and as a manager I've always felt that there is only one way to go into a season...and that's to try to win every game.... While we are in four major competitions we shall try to win four major competitions." - Joe Mercer

I like the way that the Stanley Cup playoffs happen, but I'm not sure I'd like to see that injected into the major football leagues.
