At least the media have their story for tomorrow. Seeing as they know so much, how did they miss this?

Exactly this re: the players and some of their abysmal attitudes and performances. If Vinny did give somebody an arse kicking then fair play as there have been matches this season in which the attitude/desire whatever you want to call it has been poor and some of them want to have a long look in the mirror.

Read into it what you will - glad the season is over & looking forward to the next?

I don't like the past-tense in "it really meant a lot". Wouldn't i be more normal to write "it really means a lot"?
Or am I reading too much into it?

well, he says pretty clearly that he's glad the season is over and looking forward to starting fresh. Be interesting if Kompany is the one who lead the revolt against Mancini, and though it ended with Mancini getting the boot, it seems Vinnie also faced some punishment as well.
Whatever has happened, it appears that we have had a pretty fractured dressing room ... but it always seemed like our players got along really well with one another. So it would seem to follow that coaching staff and players were at odds, which is a horrible situation for any club to be in, but there will really only ever be one loser there, and it's the manager. The players are the prized assets and wield an amazing amount of power in the modern game.

The season has finished so past tense is the correct usage ....

It's very similar to Aguero's FB to be honest -Sergio Aguero wrote:'Its the end of a season that didn't go as expected but gotten important lessons and learned much. Now I'm focused on the upcoming challenges and pumped as always. There's the US tour and the World Cup Qualifiers.'
Hard to tell who is feeling what at the moment, but perhaps telling that communication channels are re-opening after the season has ended, would suggest a club enforced black out until then.
