It was something which, to my eyes, was more Championship quality than Champions League.

If this German standard of football is the new benchmark that we've all got to aspire to, then heaven help the beautiful game.

Really don't know where to start. These teams demolished all that stood before them then provided 90 blistering minutes of football.

The fact you've said they didn't bring "any David Siva moments" like Silva himself has done fuck all this season leaves me baffled.

Sorry to leave you baffled but, to my mind, the game was just crying out for someone to put their foot on the ball and use a more thoughtful and measured approach, instead of just (IMHO) aimlessly banging it forward, invariably losing possession.

In a different post, Mr Nool said some of the mistakes were brought about by the pressing game both teams were playing, which is a fair point, but neither side seemed to be even TRYING to get a hold of the ball and use it creatively.

Next season, if either of these two sides are drawn against Barcelona and, in the meantime, the Catalan outfit address some of the cracks starting to appear in their side, as well as having a fully fit Lionel Messi, I'm sure that results and performances will be markedly different from those of this season.

I agree with what you are saying, to a certain extent.

It's a bit daft to call it 'Championship standard' because what we had there are two of the most difficult to play against sides in the world, but it's also not the highest quality of football, absolutely not at all, & most of the players on view are not that good imo.

In fact, whenever I watch Bayern, Robben & Ribery are streets ahead of anyone else on that team, including Pigfucker (who is the 3rd only real world quality player Bayern have). The overall contribution, running off the ball, tracking back etc of Ribery was fucking immense & without it, Dortmund would have won. Bayern are ten times better organised than we were last season, & are much better balanced but they don't do anything special football wise.

As for Dortmund; I recon Klopp is a very dangerous man. He is doing something different to most other present managers but he is closer to Steve Coppell & Graeme Taylor than Guardiola or Mancini. It's something which is working, & has elements well worth copying, but there is the danger; people copying all of it rather than bits of it & being successful. That would set quality football back decades.

It's a modern day version of English 80's football but played more on the ground & in the middle as opposed to aerial & width but the principal is the same, run like fuck & 'knock it' forward. It's not an accident that they keep losing the ball, it's because they are clearly under instruction to do everything as fast & direct as possible. It's difficult to play against if you don't see it enough, but it's not that difficult to implement if people start going for speed & workrate over football talent.

I hope he starts to struggle.

In the end though, Barca & Real have fucked up big style this season.

I heard a United fan saying that it should've been them in the final if it wasn't for shit refereeing.

It made me smile.

yeah because their shit team of shrek and cleverly would have stomped dortmund.

against madrid they got lucky with a set piece and an own goal. apart from that they couldn't even score.

So apart from the fact they scored twice they couldn't even score?

I agree though that Dortmund would have beat them. Quality side.

Hate to say it but I thought they were the better team in the Bernabau. But Madrid aren't especially good.

Really? To me Madrid were all over them, hit the post, forced De Gea to make a few very good saves and had the lionshare of possesion in that first leg. Rags were just well organised and took their only chance.

I thought United played alright considering who they were playing, and that they knew a draw would do, but Real were far the better team. If I remember right Real had far more possession and far more territorial advantage. They also had twice the shots that United had. In the reverse leg I thought it was the same script with United hanging out for the win.

The rags were pouring men forward at the end in the Bernabau & arguing with the ref when he blew the final whistle because they were after scoring the winner.

They may have been after getting them on the break but from what I saw, and I think the stats back it up, Real were far the better team. Like I said though mate, it's a different dynamic when playing away from home and I thought United did quite well but they weren't the better team. I remember in the return fixture, a stat of Real having about 65%(ish) possession and nearly as much territorial advantge which was well before the sending off. United actually seemed to want to want to get forward with intent once they lost the 2 goals.

Such a shame they didn't get the extra-extra time that they are so accustomed to in the Prem.

I thought it was a fantastic game. I love the tempo both teams play with and they are easily the best two sides I have seen us play in the past two years.

Thought it was an even game for 80 minutes but Bayern looked much stronger in the end. They would have won it even if it had gone to ET.

Unfortunately though that's how they win so many games. Not by being the better team but by soaking up pressure and taking their chances on the counter.
Real bossed both legs but almost came away as losers.
