Hopefully jimmy can improve his overall fitness, so he can put in a shift like he does for a full 90 minutes.

Milner, Nasri, Silva, Yaya, Navas, Fernandinho will all be regulars, they just won't start every game IMO.

It's Barry and Garcia who will have limited games.

Team could set up a number of ways.

Hart
Zaba. Komps. Nasti. Clichy

Navas. Yaya. Milner

Silva. Cavani. Aguero

Same back four and GK

Navas. Yaya. Fernandinho. Silva

Cavani. Aguero

Nasri can fit in where silva or Navas play. If Cavani doesn't come, Dzeko and/or Teves can replace him.

I've not seen enough of him to fully comment but it seems a lot of money for a guy of his age who has not really played in a top league.

We did need another defensive midfielder but I would have gone for McCarthy at Wigan who would have been a very decent squad player a fraction of the cost of Fernandinho.

He took the piss out of Chelsea and having seen him getting knocked about (he still got his pass in) he immediately got up without the usual latin roll around the floor for half an hour and without crying to the ref , Im impressed.
I honestely think he will surprise all of us as he seems to want to make a real impact, get back in the Brasil side and more importantly ,he wanted to join us.

He will be a star.

Barry can transition to the Vieira/Pizarro role and provide experience and cover during the long season.

Excited about this and thrilled to see what he can bring to City. He is 28, but some players don't really hit their peak til they find the right opportunity later in their careers. Yaya was right around this age when we signed him and he's delivered immensely. Speed, mobility, technical ability, good distribution, breaking up opposition play, and adding more depth in the midfield is always welcome.

Welcome Fernandinho!

I think that this is the official Shakhtar site and it says that we paid 40 million euros:

http://shakhtar.com/en/news/27109

On 6 June, FC Shakhtar and Manchester City reached an agreement regarding the transfer of the Pitmen’s midfielder Fernandinho to the English club. The Citizens signed the Brazilian for 40 million euros.

FC Shakhtar thank Fernandinho for those 8 years spent at the Donetsk club, for his goals and commitment. Ferna is not just a high-class player, but also a wonderful person with a big heart and open soul. Thank you and good luck at the new club!

The team here is strong, and so is the greatness of the club and the supporters. Professionally this is a spectacular thing. Playing for a huge club in a huge league makes me so happy. I hope I will be able to repay City for what they have done for me.

Playing in the Premier League for City is like a dream.

Great to hear new signings say this and actually mean it!

30 million for a 28 year old defensive midfielder, perhaps the position we least needed strengthening in.

I'm not sure about this one. He really better be world class to justify the price.

More info about our new signing.

The impact Fernandinho could have on Manchester City

The caveat to this article is that I’ve only seen Fernandinho play in the Champions League, so it’s a relatively small sample size by which I’m judging him.

Presumably, the Brazilian’s most attractive attribute from Manchester City’s perspective is his passing range, and how comfortable he is on the ball. He’s listed as a defensive midfielder, but he’s more versatile than that, and he could theoretically occupy either of the positions currently belonging to Gareth Barry or Yaya Toure.

On the basis that Manuel Pellegrini will in fact be named as the club’s new manager next season, expect City to look something like this with Fernandinho in the side.

Image

That’s the formation Pellegrini favoured at Malaga, and he’ll presumably use Fernandinho in one of those deeper roles. The value of having a two-way player in that position, is that it will allow Yaya Toure to get forward more, and into the areas in which he caused such danger at the end of the title-winning side. Alternatively, Fernandinho could push-on leaving Toure as the covering player – that’s the flexibility City have bought.

Clearly there’s an issue here for Gareth Barry; without doubt, he’s unfairly treated by the football public in this country, and the Mesut Ozil moment in the 2010 World Cup has done him a disservice. What there’s no getting away from, though, is that Fernandinho is a far superior athlete and much more suited to playing centrally in a fast-paced league – and that’s principally why this is such an upgrade. He’s a better passer of the ball, he’s quicker, he’s more of a goal-threat, he reads the game better, and he’s younger.

If I was a City fan, I’d be almost as excited about this signing as I was with the capture of Jesus Navas. In the space of the week, City have potentially cured two problem areas and made themselves significantly stronger. Navas gives them width, Fernandinho brings greater dynamism and flexibility in the middle of the pitch.

This is going to be the team to beat next season, despite all the Mourinho-bluster coming from Stamford Bridge – and that’s even before Isco’s inevitable move to The Etihad

Of course you're second guessing it. If it was a whiskeynose signing you'd be all over it, saying how City missed out. We just added another great, entertaining player to our squad. Enjoy it you miserable fuck!

Also, since when should we care about the transfer fee?!? It's not like the Sheik is going to run out of $40 billion anytime soon. Let him handle the money, let the media and other fans bitch about it, and we can enjoy the results of it! FFS
