Quitting City

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Quitting City

Postby Cocacolajojo1 » Sat Jun 08, 2013 1:15 pm

I was wondering if any of you on here has ever considered, been close to or actuallt stopped following City? In that case, why? And I'm not talking about a drop in interest for a period of weeks, months or years, that seems kind of natural that most people's interest rise and fall with the currents of life and such. I'm referring to a concsious decision to stop following City.

I've never thought the thought but then again, my time as a City-supporter been blessed with a majority of good years. I guess this goes out to anyone but myself and Phips ;).
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

I have times when i can't be arsed with football. I got very pissed off at it all not last season but the one before. That was more because of the blatant corruption on display.

I've considered not renewing my seasoncard but always end up renewing.

But you can't stop supporting a football team. If you can then you never supported them in the first place.

I would have stopped going if Swales hadn't fucked off & also if we'd continued playing as we did in Mancini's 1st half season, but I still would have been an armchair supporter.

Nah i can't not watch us really.

I do go through periods of disillusionment with football in general though as it can all be a huge fucking farce at times. Even this season there was a few weeks where i thought 'oh ffs football, just stop being ridiculous' - it was around the time of all the stupid scandals. The Suarez bite, the Bosingwa smile (seriously, who gives a fuck) and the Reggie Hunter PFA Comedy booking thing and there was more, i'm sure. They were all everywhere and it drove me mad. Absolutely huge overreactions to all of them. I can't even begin to believe the latter two were even news, never mind widely reported and debated. I found myself a little numb to the game then. Probably not helped by our general malaise on the pitch and indifferent attitude. It just all felt so pointless and like football had jumped the shark a bit - so much childish and pointless bickering over pretty inconsequential stuff.

A lot like some of the debates on this forum at the moment...i can't believe people are actually arguing over the Fernandinho transfer fee....STILL. Let it fucking go. If it was 25m or 35m who cares? It is not our money and if the Sheikh wants to spend that then he fucking can. To actually fall out over it just baffles me....but yeah, to cut a long story short. Not sure if i could ever stop supporting City. I have supported them (by my own choice) since i was 4 years old. You can't just switch that off. I do however though sometimes get a little bit frustrated with football in general.

Just do not think that it is possible to be a 'real fan' and to stop going / supporting.

Loads of us on here will have been going all through the dark days when it was just not conceivable we would ever win anything again - and I mean EVER!

But the crack was still great - the away support just brilliant

Being capable of giving up means you were not 'there' in the first place.

Being a CITY fan, over the 40 years I have been going, I have considered to be an illness - an affliction - a waste of money - the cause of break-ups etc. I may have often wished that I had never become infected - but never did I ever think that there was a cure.

If you are able to 'give up' - more of a follower than a fan IMO

Damn. I thought this was going to be a goodbye post by one of the members.

Anyway. I had a season ticket when Pearce was in charge but for the last few games of the season didn't bother going. Says a lot when I used to go full time when we were in Division 2. He nearly stopped me going.

If we'd signed Rooney a couple of seasons ago I would have packed football.

Nope.

Not even to let Wooders, DoomtheBosnianBurnerMerchant and other abusers' life happier.

I love MCFC because I have thoughtfully realized that is the Club which most suits my personal values about the Game I love most, in its original shape within the culture that invented it.

He is clearly referring to the actual Swales era which was a horribly depressing tenure, ya muppet.

that seems a pretty poor parallel to draw bearing in mind the divorce statistics.
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.

Makes you wonder just how low our attendances fell during that time. I hardly bothered in the 2nd half of that season but will have been counted in the attendance as a st holder
