Indeed. The owner can say what he wants and then make up the difference with his own cash if he likes. He's not short of a few bob.

But would they really sit in a room discussing a deal worth millions and then say "by the way, can we lie about how much you give us so you look like knobs and everyone thinks we bent you over?".

We seem to be really strict with the purse strings when it comes to negotiations and don't play games with bidding wars or knob head agents. Letting teams lie about the money we have spent would just undermine all of that because it encourages other teams/agents to think they can do us over when we try getting new players.

I don't think finding exaggerated transfer fees is high up on UEFA's list of priorities.
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

They didn't say how the 40 mil was broken down, so no reason to assume it's a lie, just a Daily Mail style slant on the fee.

Will wait until the transfer window closes and Fernandinho has ten games under his belt before passing judgement on a 28 year old BRAZILIAN defensive midfielder. A De Rossi deal still looks better.

Please let us get this one though, he even looks good in sky blue!

if Chelsea gets this guy they're going to be one hell of a force to be reckoned with in the league next season.

Dealing with Italian clubs is just a nightmare, always seems to played out like a bloody opera with their owners/chairmen etc so addicted to grabbing their own limelight

Either they've been stringing us along all the while trying to get Chelsea to up their price, while the player, knowing that Maurine was after him, only had eyes on them. Either that or they're just trying to get us to break the bank. I suspect it's the first.

It may not be Chelsea to worry about, rumours now going around that he has RM considering him after his own 'my dream would be RM or Barca' IF there is any credence to this, then best we walk away now. Better he goes to Spain than Chelsea

We had this last year with Hazard from what I recall, if the bloke doesn't want to come, he doesn't to come, however much We the supporters (speaking loosely I.e.may be not all ) want him.

On another note, other RUMOURS have us linked with another Italian based player.... El Shaarway at 40M, for a 20yr old?? Anyone? Or is this just more bollox??

Doesn't everyone "dream of real or barca". Cunts are helped massively by being in Spain and not sun burnt or pissed wet through manchester. But el shaarawy, that's a kid I'd love us to sign. Not for anything like 40 million though.

Do you not think he would go missing in a PL game?

I'm only going off what I have seen of him; there is no doubt he has class about him, but I don't think he would adjust.

It's a very tricky debate.

The defenses in Italy, Spain, France, and even Germany as well as the overall competition level are much "weaker" than that of the Premier League. That is why you see people like Dzeko come here and struggle (although our system under Mancini didn't help).

The only way to really know is to see what happens when they make the switch and have time to adjust.

First, top defenses in Bundesleague right now are better than anything Premier League has to offer (apart from our own defense). Second, it's extremely controversial to say that Dzeko has struggled with is. Guy has about one in every two strike rate, probably better if you go by minutes played. He is exactly the same guy I saw in Germany. Gangly looking feller, who given chances, could score anywhere in the box.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

He has been kicked to fuck in Italy. Hasn't had an easy ride of it which makes me think he could be ok plus at 20 I think it would be easier for him to adjust than a 26 year old.

Wouldn't get as much time on the ball in dangerous areas but he is a mint finisher and is skilful.

Not sure about that, we wanted both Falcao and Cavani, we appear to have lost both, adding more MF players I dont see that is being an area we are weak in. If its goal we want then go and get Gomez he scores for fun

Dzeko scored for fun in Germany..

His record with us as good as it gets for games started. Give that boy the service forget his flaws and play to his strengths he will amass goals. Not my fav player TBH but he scores goals, when others are after the perfect goal, Gomez is the same.

I have a strong feeling that going with the three strikers we have now would not be the end of the world if more power and pace was added in other areas of the pitch. I'd like us to sign Cavani but think that Carlos, Dzeko and Serg are all capable of scoring twenty goals + given the right service.
As an aside I think Big Dave will benefit greatly from there being more pace around him. It's so much easier to slide balls through when there are quick players.

That's 100% on the money.

We have the strikers already, the question is can we extend Carlos' contract. I would like a young player(from the academy if possible) as a 4th striker and (with any luck) a good experienced pay-as-you-play free transfer as a backup, Vieira style signing.

If we can trade Dzeko for Cavani I wouldn't say no though.

Guidetti is your kid for the fourth striker spot. Would have taken Mario's spot last year after he went if not for injury. Although that will only work if you get a manager willing to play kids. For example, three goals to the good after an hour against the likes of Norwich or West Brom give John 30 minutes to test himself. Combine regular lengthy sub appearances with starts in several cup and league games and we will know whether or not he's a keeper.
