This sums it up.
I cannot believe this topic has extended into 3 pages. The fact is, if you've ever thought of quitting being a fan, you were never a fan in the first place.
And I'm not talking giving up a season ticket, or reducing the number of games you've gone to. Actually quitting altogether, which, I understand, was the question.
No one here seems to have ever thought of actually quitting fortunately. Except if you support or certain player or manager I suppose.
Everyone should get back to slagging each other off or debating Fernandinho's transfer fee instead of discussing crap like this.

Can I echo these last 2 posts. Occasionally you see some threads on here which make you shake your head, and this is one of them.
Carl nails it in one. If you are thinking of quitting City, then off you go as you weren't a true supporter in the first place.

Eh? Why did you shake your head? This is a great thread, everyone is singing combaya together and loving city.
I never said I was thinking about quitting City, I was just curious about other people's experiences.
Even Hornby quit Arsenal for a few years but he seems to be as hardcore as they come so I actually don't think there's any shame if anyone's ever contemplated it or done it. Piccs seems to have thought about it a couple of times, albeit very briefly, but I can't imagine many, if any, who are more dedicated to this club.
I'm going to assume you were unlucky when you thought what you were going to post in this thread.

There's a difference between considering not renewing a season ticket, and quitting supporting.
I can understand someone not wanting to renew if the football was so shite and the cost was increasing. But to stop supporting altogether???
I can only imaging people who started 'supporting' the club when Mancini or Dzeko signed would have those thoughts.

I think most supporters go through periods of disinterest but altogether quitting is not so common no. As for Hornby, it was a long time ago since I last read Fever Pitch but I think he quit, if he indeed did I can't remember exactly, because he felt it was too consuming. But then he seems to have a compulsive/addictive personality. And he started going again eventually.

I considered not renewing my season ticket once. Part of the reason I didn't was knowing I would be pacing round the house waiting for the ceefax screen to change and listening to Brian Clarke's shit commentary on the radio.
Or that stupid "it's a goalllll" or "ohhhhhh no" thing Piccadilly Radio used to do. Pure panic until you heard Bury had conceded a fourth at Port Vale.
I can remember many times walking away from the back of the Kippax after another inept 0-1 to some no mark team thinking "I wish I didn't care" But I do, it's why it's a life sentence.
