LOL - CUNT.

AS I SAID IN THE MATCH THREAD I THINK,HATS OFF TO HUGHES - WE ALL SAID THIS WAS A HUGE WEEK FOR HIM AND HE MADE IT A GREAT WEEK.
ALL MANAGERS GET JUDGED ON RESULTS...............I HAVE SAID MANY TIMES I HOPE IM WRONG ABOUT HIM AND HE GETS US WHERE WE WANT TO GO.

LETS SEE HOW WE NOW PERFORM AGAINST THE LIKES OF BOLTON,WIGAN ECT ECT...THESE ARE THE GAMES WE HAVE TO WIN IF WE ARE TO PROGRESS.

I thought that would draw you out mate ;)

You're dead right, we have to keep perspective at ALL times and now is no different. 3 points is 3 points and it doesn't matter a wank if we beat Chelsea and underperform against the inbreds.

I haven't said this all season so far because I genuinely could not see a team performance for 90 mins in ANY game we've played until now.... but I think we're all gonna have a very merry christmas this year.

And you can drag this quote up if it goes pete ;)

Not about to change my mind after two games- one against a reserve team. Dont get me wrong I was delighted with yesterdays performance, but there is something wrong with a team that can only raise their game against the top sides, but cant beat Wigan, Birmingham, Burnley, Fulham etc. All the small teams usually raise their game against the "big four", appears to me that we still have that small team mentality. Until we start regularly beating the lower sides I will remain sceptical.

That said, just came across this football article with Given interviewed, and he puts the performance down to a dressing room rollicking. For all the Hughes haters no need to give him all the credit there - bound to be a couple of big personalities who were willing to dish out some criticism too, but nice to know the gaffer puts his views across when needed, and to good effect this time!

Something Les says he encourages and one of the reasons he signed Bellamy. Seemed to work on this occasion!

Apart from obvious footballing talent the reason players have been signed would include character , attitude, winning mentality etc. It's ok to have a manager and coaching staff that will have a go at players , as a group or individually but it's important also to have individuals who are prepared to have a go at each other. Also important of course that the players can take it from each other. Bellamy first did it back at Pompey last year and than did some good at the time.

The best part is what has happened in the 2 games since the Hull game. It's only 2 games though so I hope we can still reflect positively after another 20.

Last weeks results are the happiest times for me in ages..I really hope we can carry on and build on it..All the top sides shrug off criticism from average results and start performing again..We have now bounced back and if were the real deal it will continue.
Our squad has the ammo to pummel Bolton (away) Beat Spuds (away) by 1 or 2 and thrash Sunderland at home.Im confident the players now have the belief to carry on from Sat and produce max points.

over the last 2 games hughes has got the tactics spot on.

at the start of the season we were trying to bed in a new central defence and our centre midfield were sitting back protecting them letting the opposition have the ball.

now however our defence is defending a much higher line and our midfield is closing down the opposition alot quicker and so are our attackers. with our defence playing higher up the pitch our midfield is alot closer to our attack.

when utd and chelsea play the weaker teams and they lose the ball they chase and harrass them until they get it back. they have an attitude like that they have a right to the ball and they pressure the opposition into mistakes.

our attackers have always done this againist the top teams but now the midfielders are also doing it, we know need to do this againist all teams and own the ball and dictate the game. if this happens over the next 3/4 games then hughes is our man

Plus our fullbacks dont go forward as much now.I think this suits us and allows the MF to relax and concentrate on supportin the forwards.
The rags and Chelski rely on there fullbacks to support there attack but i dont think we should adopt this right now and glad MH has pulled them back abit more inline with the CB.
Apart from the Ade OG we have not conceded in the last 2 games and look more a solid unit.

No disrespect Doug but have to partly disagree here. The best part of what has happened the last 2 games is Hughes showing the tactical COURAGE that you yourself were calling for before those games. It was what you and others were saying for some time and you were proven right. We didn't line up so defensively and we were rewarded forthat with results AND performance. Hope he has the courage to stick with it now he has the players with the attitude he wants - not that I believe that attitude is necessary for success but that it is necessary for Hughes to believe in the side himself.

it also helps that the two teams we played in the last two games were always going to come and attack us, which aids our better players. I think we will se the proverbial team bus parked in front of the goal again on saturday. We need to be able to unlock that type of team and now Robbie is back, I think he will provide the keys.

I agree completely, our side is based on the quick counter attack through Bellamy, Tevez and SWP. Against teams who attack, which the "top4" will do, we naturally look good and our tactics look spot on.

Against teams who play tight, deep within their half and double/triple up on the wings we have looked poor. For Hughes to become a great manager for us he needs to develop a system which can combat this.

For me this means giving more responsibility to the centre midfield players. Ireland, Barry and De Jong need to take far more responsibility in these types of games as Bellamy, SWP, Robinho and Tevez are effectively marked out. We also need to shoot more in these games instead of trying to walk it into the 18 yard box as there will be nearly 15 players in it. Ireland needs to stop his one touch flicks and hold the ball and pass it whilst looking to work an angle he is capable of producing.

The Stoke City game away from home was a perfect example of this.

There's been some decent discussion on what Hughes and the team have done on the pitch, but what about what has happened off it. I read that Hughes had given the players a rifting after the Hull game and then allowed them an open session against each other, allowing them to aire their views on each others play. I know this would usually happen naturally in many teams but ours is a brand new one and players would not necessarily believe they have the right.

This for me has played a part in our last couple of games, and brought the players closer and more understanding of each other as a team.

Of course they did, how the hell did they understand what was said! And, it's good that it's only happening now and then as I don't think it would've had the same effect after the Liverpool and Chelsea game; do you ;-)
