Free kick taker.

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I wouldn't worry about free kicks and close range set pieces tbh, as I'm expecting more of the same dodgy referee decisions, soft calls against in dangerous spots, 1st offence yellow cards while opponents get warnings and Zaba must bleed to get a foul.. etc.

He may be retired but the trend will continue, no doubt about that.

Nope, you weren't alone, it was like that penno that Vass took against the scum. I just knew what was going to happen and didn't look.
Still haven't seen that penalty to this day.

Thats funny im the exact same with all that, also called we would lose one nil that day to a peno on here. Sometimes you just know whats coming and with vass and rvp i knew it was coming, there were other moments with city for me that i cant think of off hand, usually at the end of a derby match you just know a last min winner for them is coming!

On topic, i agree we need a free kick taker badly, thing is they seem to turn to shit when they come here, barry and milner were excellent before they came here at set piece delivery i dont know what happened them.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe Barry is Aston Villa's 5th highest all time goal scorer.

The scoring records of most of our midfield is pretty poor. Dave Silva is the main culprit but Nasri and Milner too, if they could get a pair of shooting boots there would be less panic over strikers.

LOL

I wrote it in the match thread at the time when I saw Vassell taking it. I myself couldn't watch it either as I just KNEW how it would end up.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Just looking at Barry's goalscoring 5 years before signing for City: 8, 6, 9, 9, 8. At City: 3,2,1,2. Milner got 12 goals the season before we signed him.

Look at Michael Bolton (David Luiz). He trained daily and now he is a really good free kick specialist. Mario was always shite, everytime the ball hit the wall.

I really hope our new fangled academy will start teaching kids to take free kicks too. The old bunch of coaches were absolutely useless at it. Players who came through like Ireland & Michael Johnson would have been pinging them in the top corner regularly had they come through the rags system. At our club most of the academy products don't even take an interest in taking a free kick at first team level.

Joey Barton only did it because he taught himself.

I think we have one or two coming through who could become top notch if we work with them.

Yeah, it all comes down to kids, however, there aren"t that many free kick takers like there were in the past. I"ve watched Spain playing with Uruguay last week and i asked myself why they can"t score with Xavi and Iniesta on the field. They took 3 or four (Ramos took one) and Muslera didn"t had a problem.

I think at the moment, every player is trying to copy the way Tranny is taking those, even Bale does that.

That rapist RVP is a great fucker, but he learned how to take those free kicks from the best free kick taker of our time, Pierre Van Hooijdonk. Remember when Feyenoord won the UEFA Cup back in 2002, PVH was their goal machine and he said that the young fella from the left, RVP at that time, asked him daily how to score from those.

I remember that season all too well. They were totally playing up for the free kicks, because they knew he could bang them in from any position.
I remember that free kick he took from a ridiculous angle and still got it inside.

The goal at 2:45. This guy could make Pirlo look average with his free kicks.

That season, or the year after, they played Juventus in the Champions League. On De Kuyp ended 3-3. At one moment, Van Hooijdonk had a 25-30 m free kick against Buffon. His first shot was a goal, the ref asked him to take it again. He took it again, this time hit the post, then the ref ask him to take it for the third time, he took it for the third time and scored again. All three times, Buffon stood on his line, he didn"t even try to jump for the ball.

The key difference being the role you are asked to play by the manager and the rigidity of that role which doesn't allow forward runs in Barry's case. When I see him in training he times runs brilliantly to get goals and is quite cool taking them as well.

Rvp's free kick against us?

It was a pile of shit. He was attempting to bend it into the top corner. It hit the wall at knee height. It only went in because nasri is a fucking French fanny.

A free kick "specialist" might get us 3/4 goals a season. We need a quality striker that will score us 30 goals.
