He's the absolute perfect example of what I'm talking about above; nice on the ball, can't defend for shit. Amazed Arsenal didn't sign him.

Looks like another French Ligue 1 player on his way to the toon.

10P Worth he is closer to leaving now than ever before, Neymar and him will not work. Not saying anymore than it could happen. Sadly BM have Pep G.

Seems to have a good rep but I've never really particularly watched him, I've usually been watching DeRossi when watching Roma.
The only cb who has made me take notice is Verane at Real Madrid & even he is still just a kid & makes some of the same mistakes Nastasic makes. He's better at everything than Nastasic though.
Not seen a single cb anywhere that has stood out. Even those geezers at Dortmund everyone raves about look fairly shite to me.
My brothers absolute hero is Francesco Totti and as such he watches almost every Roma game.
I asked him about Marquinhos and he said that he reckons that within 5 years he could be the best CB in the world but isn't worth the quoted money right now. He's good but no better than Nasty.
Many at Roma have compared Marquinhos to club hero, Aldair, If anyone remembers him, high praise indeed.

He was a Rolls Royce of a defender.

Wenger wanted to turn him into a midfielder, so Vertonghen moved to spurs instead or Arse.

Be interesting to see how Barca work it with those two plus a midfield which was found out defensively by the Germans.

Could imagine him being decent as a defensive midfielder.

I think Pep did the tactics board after the Juve game, Bayern rested and rested and demolished Barca, it was almost a Lions line out call being read for 80 mins. Messi will leave Ted at some point £100 mil offer. I still think we have a chance as RM are out for a start.

BM HAD bARCAS NUMBER, Messi was on one leg, Busquetes and Xavi played injured. The decline of this Barca may never happen, but who saw the hammering coming, this plus tax problems are sometimes the thing that Graham Hunter and co will point to as teh start of the end, all be it may never happen.. I still think Villa would be a great addition to us as he is a very young 31 with his injury behind him he is the best finisher of any that might be avil, Gomez also.

Villa would be a great signing if the price was decent but I doubt it would be. He & Silva understand each other's game.
I have never understood how Barca get away with it to the extent they do. I can understand how they score goals, because Messi is unstoppable & they have so many clever players, but defensively imo their success is more down to fear than ability or tactics.
I like the idea of a full on press when a team loses the ball, but to be able to do it with so many lightweight & not particularly energetic players is not on. To do it so successfully should require at least a couple of athletes in the midfield who can track back & run all day & Barca don't have them. They rely on not having to run for more than a few seconds without getting the ball back. Teams bottle it when pressed & hand over possession. If they don't, Barca are very very vulnerable & their legs start to go, same with Spain.
The team that evolves that same style but with more variety, power & athleticism will be the next big advancement. Hopefuly that will be the long term result we get from mixing the physical requirements of the Premier League with the football philosophy of Pellegrini & Txiki.
