Why?

70 goals in about 140 games in the Spanish league for a mid-table team doesn't seem too bad. Especially for what is going to be a 3rd choice striker...

Underwhelming cos he's basically another Dzeko, and i don't think that's really what we need.

was hoping for someone to push aguero (who is supposedly "world class" but rarely looks it).

Dzeko is better than Negredo. Negredo's not bad option for third/fourt striker behind Aguero and Dzeko fighting with Guidetti.

Oh, and he's Spanish.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

31 goals last year, 1 in 2 across his career.

Plenty good enough for a rotation/ 3rd choice option.

Oh and also must also be noted he is NOT a troublemaker! Big plus that!

Tbh I think pretty much any of the strikers we have been linked with have something to offer.

I was initially hoping for someone more dynamic to replace Tevez but thinking about it over the last day or so, you can't replace Tevez, he is special & unique. What you can do with your strikers, which Bob didn't, is try to pick players who may be suited to playing together.

I don't agree that Negredo is the same as Dzeko. He seems to me to be a footballer who scores goals rather than just a goalscorer & I could see him linking with Dzeko or Aguero & of course Navas.

But several of the players linked with us could also play alongside our other strikers.

It would be hard to imagine a striking set up less compatible than Dzeko, Balotelli & no wide player.

31 goals from 40 odd games last season says Negredo was better than any of our strikers, so if he signs it's not a step backwards.

How reliable are these rumours about Negrado? Seen a few Seville games and he always looks busy and sharp. Not in the same way as Tevez, like Ted said, no one is like him, but this lad knows what he is doing.

I still think, if we want a goal scorer, Gomez is our best shot. Don't like the guy, but at 27 and with his record, he is certain to get us goals for a good 3 or so years.

Worry about Negredo is that if he was THAT level of player, he'd be at Real or Barca wouldn't he?

A bit like Giroud's signing at Arsenal - remember he scored a bunch for Montpellier. Negredo is an OK signing, but hardly the top class we crave or need. Looks like the manager will be the key signing for us, and the onus is on him to make the total greater than the sum of the parts.

However, Negredo for Tevez does not appear to be an upgrade.

I really have never paid much attention to Negredo to be honest so can't shed much light on what to expect. It has to be said his goalscoring especially playing at a mid table side is very impressive.

Lavezzi is like tevez. But with less goals sadly.

Im ok with the spaniard. Esp if it ruffles antti and his anti-spafia, pro-licker agenda.

Cheers

Sounds like he is much like Dzeko and less like Aguero. Maybe his familiarity with getting on the end of Navas crosses is a selling point for City?? He's old though and 24mil seems high. Who knows what the actual fee might end up being, if this goes through.

I'd prefer someone younger but I'm sure the staff know what they're doing.

Me neither. Is this official or a strong rumour? (I've been living in a cave for 24 hours)

Makes me laugh, people slating players on here like negrado without probably ever even watching him play or studying his form. Blind ignorance by some people.

Watched a few videos of his goals. Most of them come from crosses. We're gonna have to give him the right service and play to his strengths.
