Rekik on loan at PSV for 1 year

Hopefully will be a good experience and step in his development. And with Phillip Cocu as the coach he has a great role model. Wonderful talent

PSV next season will almost certainly the youngest central duo of the league with two Dutch youth internationals. Besides Jeffrey Bruma (21), whose transition after some additional medical examination to his heart expected will be fine, presents the Eindhoven club coach Phillip Cocu after the weekend Karim Rekik (18) Manchester City as a new addition for the 2013 season -2014.

Rekik, the man who comes from the youth academy of Feyenoord in 2011 after a high-profile move to England's youngest foreign player in the history of Manchester City was (he debuted in September 2011 as a sixteen year old) is rented for one year of English club. Rekik is already two seasons part of the selection of Manchester City and was in between, just as is the great English clubs, for short periods on loan to Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers. His brother Omar is a great talent in the Academy of Manchester City.

interesting that we also have omar rekik somewhere in our academy.

i'm all for rekik getting more time on the pitch - my only concern with sending him abroad (specifically the country where he's from) is that he'll want to stay at PSV permanently after a successful season, and that he'll think he has no shot to crack the first team.

I think he'll be more at home and able to get some actual experience (unlike at Blackburn or Portsmouth where he just rode the bench). Because if he's just going to sit on the bench, he should stay here and train w/ the 1st team.

since he actually probably HAS no shot at cracking the first team it might be the best chance for him and us to resolve his future.

Seemed really positive at 16, and average at 18 from a complete outsiders perspective based on just a few matches. Wish him well...he's got a lot to learn and a lot to prove....not the finished article yet so who really knows.

cheers

Good move for him and us. Potentially CL football on offer for him too, good way to gauge where he's at.

Haven't seen a whole lot of him but from what I have seen he looks competent, for example the Reading home game last season he looked beyond his years playing at left back.

I thought it was interesting that Appleton came back in for him whilst at Blackburn after previously having him on loan at Pompey, shame for Karim that Appleton got the bullet shortly after.

Is our new York team playing this season? I've always expected our loanees to go there where we can control their exposure to the first team

Hopefully it will be a good move for him and he will come back with a better chance of some match time here next year.

I could not get motivated for the Confeds Cup, probably blame Tahiti on that one. u20's World Cup I just wanted over so we could sign Isco, that worked out well. Thank god Brazil is next year, it's our methadone.

do you mean ever? i'm not ready to write him off, or suarez, or any of the guys who are right around the fringes in that 17-20 age group. will any of them become regular fixtures in the starting XI? probably not, but rekik is just 18 now i believe, plenty of time to get into the team, especially if he has a good season at PSV.

This is a perfect move.

I thought this lad looked to have something extra but when I've seen him recently he looks a shadow of the player he was at a younger age. He actually looked more of a first team squad player when we first signed him imo.

The opportunity of regular football should see him develop to his realistic potential & we can find out whether there is a future for him at City. He doesn't look dominant in the air or fast enough for a Prem cb to me, but he has been injured & perhaps could become more athletic. He is a decent footballer though & could perhaps become a Barry/Garcia type player if he doesn't make it as a defender.

Whether he makes it or not, this kind of stuff is every bit as important as bringing through star players imo. If top young prospects are going to sign for City, we need to show that they can still get opportunities for a career in football if we don't use them.

Dennis Suarez is another who needs to either play in our first team or go somewhere else.

Good move for him 'IF' he gets to play regulary in the first team, he may get back on track when he's actually playing competitive games and hopefully we'll bare the fruit next season.

I'm sure the Feyenoord loyals will love this. First he moves away from them at such a young age and now he's playing for one of their rivals. Classy :P

This is exactly what Rekik needs if he's to progress himself. There's no way he could make it into our first team at the moment and as a young CB he needs to be playing regularly, getting geames under his belt, to give him that confidence to step up.

Will he make it with us, I'm not sure, but if we give him the opportunity to shine somewhere, and no better place than in Holland, at least he's got a chance.

If not, we take the money for his talent.

To be honest, I don't think he should have left the Netherlands in the first place. I doubt it has done him any good. Two years wasted. His two loan spells did little and he's been stuck in reservers otherwise.
I'm against poaching away players from other clubs if they're only 16 years old in the first place. The gooners have been doing it for years and really, how many players have really come through? They had something special in Fabregas and Wilshere definitely seems to show a lot, but whom else? Bendtner?

If Rekik had still been in the Netherlands, he'd likely be playing for the first team by now. Having looked at Feyenoord's current team, yeah, he'd be playing with the first team, seeing as how young the rest of the team is. Ajax and PSV got quite a few young players too, so let's hope he will get his chance to prove himself, finally, and make up for lost time.
