Henry Winter I think. The Guardians Daniel Taylor is also generally very fair where City are concerned too. Martin Samuel gets a nod of acknowledgement too.

That's the one, thanks! Christ he was a good journalist/writer. Knowledgeable, dealt in facts, gave historical context and added no little insight of his own.

I like the writings of Samuels and Winters but when I think of a journalist I think that they should be breaking stories and uncovering things that aren't yet in the public domain. Do these 2 ever do this?

Don't know about uncovering but they talk about a lot of stuff that slips under the radar & bring it into the light.

Peter i am sure he used to commentate on some sport on the beeb at one time it may have been football or he was a reporter on the radio for them.
Actually Peter the guy we are both thinking of is called Hugh McIlvanny and he comentated on Boxing for the beeb before Harry Carpenter i think.

Very true and they are very much the wordsmiths of journalists but do they go that extra yard, I'm not sure. They do seem to be quite pro-Us though.

He wrote on all kinds of sport, gillie, and did it brilliantly. I didn't know he did commentary but I have heard interviews with him on the radio in the past and he was always fascinating, whatever the subject.

Harry Pearson. Genius and very funny.
Martin Samuel, persists with the real issues.
David Conn. Also author of a couple of splendid football books.
I can give Barney Ronay the time of day too.
