His mother has passed away just months after he lost his dad (back in April this year). Her funeral is tomorrow in Santiago, and he is expected to join the squad back very soon after.
Pellegrini found out about his father's death just before Malaga vs. Sociedad game in April, but coached the team without telling anyone ...
That was on a Saturday, he then went on to his father funeral on Monday in Chile and came back to coach Malaga against Dortmund on Tuesday.
This has been a tough year for Pellegrini ... let's welcome him with a warm reception at the Etihad on August 19th!
A terrible thing for both parents to die close together when he was living so far away. Death is part of life. Grieving takes time but he is starting a new life at City which may be a good thing and make him more determined to make his mark.
I am sure our owners will be sympathetic and show the compassion we have come to expect when players, staff and even fans have personal problems and they can help.
Posted it on another thread already but seems more appropriate in here - condolences to Manuel and his family. Losing both parents in such a short space of time must be devastating.
