I think I can for sure say that man-for-man, outside of keeper and maybe one midfield position, I would take the USA squad over England. I am not sure I could say that if RH had chosen a bit more wisely.

That is a soul achingly bad squad.

If thats the best we can muster, the FA is a fucking shambles and needs to go back to the fucking drawing board

Beyond Lescott, I can't actually think of any City players who should be in there.

it's a friendly so he might be trying out some things ... but that squad is pretty shite.

It's almost comical at this point that Micah can't get a game for england, there has to be something behind the scenes that has happened. I haven't seen anyone mention anything though, unless i missed it. Zaha hasn't even kicked a ball in the prem and he's in. Ashley young? holy shit. Cleverly and Carrick are both horrible. and to top it off, Welbeck. Jesus.

It's not just the quality of the players that seems to be lacking a bit, it's like there's no overall plan that hodgson is working towards ... no identity of the team. Honestly, if this is the team he's going to pick, he'd be better of saying fuck it and setting up the team to play long ball knock down, with some bruising midfielders. At least you'd have a consistent style.

I think its slightly more disturbing that Rooney is in there.

We all know that the FA now pick the squad on slightly more than just ability, but when you are picking a player who has contributed next to fuck all since 2004, has hardly kicked a ball for his club and is allegedly training with the reserves, you really have to realise just how much our england team s actually picked by the sponsors.

Really happy to see Lambert in there, but I would be happy for us to take a few hammerings on the chin, get our house in order, the ld guard out and let the likes of duncan edwards, cleverly, wilshere, rodwell, richards, zaha etc get a real run at cementing a place in the first team and finding a system the manager can use to get the very best out of them, as it can only be good for the future that we give these lads the experience even of they arent up to the standard we have come to expect from the national side.

But every time the sponsors overrule selection, because the FA are every bit as greedy as the club owners so we will never ever move forwards

MICAH RICHARDS YOU CUNT

Bit angry. Not even English, are you?

Lescott, Richards and Rodwell should all be in that squad. It's ridiculous that Zaha gets a place simply by virtue of now being a darksider.

I said City players who should be in there.

What the hell have Richards and Rodwell done recently that warrants a call-up? Recovering from injury is pretty much the sum total of their achievements.

Richards played less than 10 games last season, Rodwell not many more.

Now I'm not saying there aren't players in there who fall into the same category - indeed it is plainly obvious that you only have to be a rag and fit to get in the squad - but I was always of the view that in the absence of central contracts, you should get picked on merit. For me, neither Rodwell or Richards merit a call up.

I forgot about Barry.

People kicking off that Zaha is in the squad but he's already made his England debut. Looks an exciting young lad just a shame he's a rag now! As for the squad being full of rags I'm glad it is!!! I'd rather their players just injured playing against the jocks than ours in a meaningless game right before the league starts!

It's more of the fact that he has just joined the scum and is now a first pick. Like cleverly, one goal welbeck and phil jokes jones. All 3 are shit, yet got picked as soon as they joined the scum. we can't really comment on zaha yet but it's ridiculous how he his a first pick now.

Look at Spain, some up and coming best players still play in the under 21s and are brought trough. In England the managers in this case Roy just pick names out of a hat who play in the top 4 teams, more so from the swamp. Wilsure, welbeck, not so clever Tom, zaha, oxaid etc should be doing the same. Current system is dire, I can't fathom why there are so many England fans that follow half of stretford around the world.

Hard for me to imagine that there's even a single City fan out there that doesn't think Richards deserves a place in the national team.

Do you really think glen johnson, chris smalling, phil jones, or Kyle Walker is better?!?!? I'd even put Richards at midfield over Zaha or young. And he'd be 2x the goal scoring threat as welbeck.

I was the same mate. I believed Hodgson wouldn't be a pushover and integrity would force a sweeping change through the way we look at our players. I was wrong.

It's quite obvious that the manager does not pick the side otherwise we wouldn't keep getting the 'Billy Basic' mistakes; one of them had to get it right!

England is no longer about football, they are now just a commercial enterprise there to make money. The only point in picking the mahority of those players is because of the club they represent and how many 'fans' they can squeeze into the white elephant that is Wembley stadium.

There's a few who I'd say get there on merit, even if we don't agree with it. Players like Cole will always be first picks for most people whereas smeone like Walker is debateable, but at least he's got the games behind him. When you look at some of those Rag players though (similar to when all the Dippers were called up), you start asking questions.

Carrick - no real problems here.
Rooney - no pre-season and supposedly injured
Cleverley - understandable to bring a more vibrant player in but is he really that good?
Wellbeck - come on, wtf! How many did he score last season?
Smalling - I like him as a player but if he's not making regular games, how the fuck does he keep getting the call?
Jones - how can you pick a player for CB when he very rarely plays there for his club side?
Young - just fucking laughable, say no more.
Zaha - again, wtf! Although he may turn out to be a good player, how many call-ups did he get prior to the Rags interest?

And this is why a lot of people turn off. A third of the squad (8 players) from one team with many of them not rated by fans outside of United. I look at that and wonder why I bother sometimes, just to see Rooney gobbing off to the crowd or Young doing a 'Tom Daley' on someones arse. To top that you've then got Jones' gurning. If that ain't a show-stopper then I don't know what is!

2 for each position eh, lucky they didn't get 'Big Joe' when they had a chance. I'm sure they'll roll it out though, Joe's near move and Fosters previous with the Rags. It's all PR, it's all good.
