Very embarrassingly, Mancini started that pathetic game, & still counts it as one of his 'trophies' today. Some on here sadly joined in with him, so we have lost all credibility in this argument. If they count it as a trophy, we have to put up with it.

Correct.

He had it as the centrepiece of the cringey ad he took out in the MEN.

I always find it funny how fans perspective of this trophy changes.
When we lost to rags it was a meaningless friendly, when we beat Chelsea it was a trophy, when Rags beat Wigan it's not a trophy. Can't have it both ways.

It's nice to win but to me not really silverware.

I missed out the Europa League (which, in my opinion, is on a par with or perhaps slightly less prestigious than the FA Cup), but my thoughts remain the same.

The CS is cock all in the trophy stakes.

The CS is not a trophy but it is a honour that whoever wins it gets a bit of a buzz. Nothing wrong with Mancini claiming it and putting it in the MEN with the 2 major trophies we won, is there?

"It means you can kick the season off with a trophy in the bag before even starting the league programme, and that’s what it’s all about.

"And if you can get one trophy early on then it can give you the confidence to go on and win more. Winning the derby at Wembley would act as a major boost ahead of the season."

European honours are European honours. Only a small percentage of clubs ever win European competitions and it's a long time since we won one.

If you look at the quality of the teams who reach the last eight of the UEFA/Europa each season, winning the competition is a tremendous feat.

Besides, I did say 'on a par with or perhaps slightly less prestigious than the FA Cup'.

Cock all when United win it. Great trophy when we do. Funnily enough their fans think the reverse.

I've always said it means nothing, regardless of who wins it. Read my OP in that thread I gave the link to.

Agreed. It is no different to the friendly matches we have just played, just has more bullshit attached because it involves the English champs & cupwinners .

We have just played the Champions League winners in a much higher class of game, but still a friendly.

Hang on a cotton pickin' minute, Mancini started it? Did he fuck!! The Rags and their apologists have been counting this as a trophy for years now when listing all the trophies the piss can has won.

It was also a secondary honour that he was talking about, for a bit of emphasis.

I know that some have jumped on the back of those who have classed it as 'a Trophy' but how many on here have actually said it's a major honour?

The rags mention titles when they talk about Ferguson's trophies, he has 20 of them, so they have no need to mention anything else.

Mancini counted it as a trophy, not & 'secondary' trophy & made a twat of himself by doing so, as did anyone who agreed with him.

Take a look at how pathetic the rags are claiming it as a trophy now, imagine millions of football fans all around the country giggling about it & then picture us when Mancini opened his trap. Same thing: totally embarrassing.

I don't think anybody made a twat of themselves mate and the reality, in the true meaning of the word, is that it is a trophy. Now, that may be taking it to the full extent, just as can be said about the Grampa or Asia Trophy but it's there all the same.

To say peoples views are ridiculous because they want to call it a trophy are just that. Some people are happy to win things whatever they are, even a friendly, and that's down to them. To call them a twat is a bit pathetic if you ask me and what's more twattish is worrying about what the Rags think. If they want to class it as a trophy then fair enough but I wasn't giggling like a girl just because they won it, just like I wasn't giggling like a girl when we won it. I was quite happy though.

I like CS. It's a good appetizer for the season to come. Shame we weren't in it this year.
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

You can be a drama queen at times Ted. It isn't totally embarrassing. You win it, it's important. You don't, it's not. Done.

I don't know about you but I'd rather have it in the cabinet than not.

I still class it as a trophy. It has set retirements to enter, it's on the calendar every year and they give the same trophy each time.

Thats pretty much it in a nutshell for me.
