And, supposedly, he'd be available for 5m. I guess Pellegrini rates him?

Anyone know anything about him?

He's older than Pepe.

Wenger missed out on another target (Gustavo). What's the point of having a war chest of funds if you're going to haggle over 1-2m?

What? I'd like us to play with the players we have. No newbies. What are you on about?

his main point is that lescott, while a quality defender, is not suited to playing a high defensive line. This is seen to be the desired playing style of our new manager, and so there is a feeling that we should buy some players to better suit that system.

I would like to see us buy a central defender, especially after we let kolo go (he could have played a higher line, though maybe not the requisite quality?), but I don't think Pepe or Demichilis are the answer. Of those two I would definitely take pepe though, and I never knew that demichilis was considered any speedier than lescott.

I do like Lescott in terms of his robustness as a defender but IMO he has too big deficiencies:

a) lack of pace
b) limited ability in terms of positively using the ball to re-spark movement forward

We also have limited options in being able to deploy a different partnership if either injury or opposition/tactics dictate. Going into the season with only young Dedryk as cover and a recuperating Nasti is pretty fucking mental and I am sure we/The Count are not considering doing so.

Stick with what we have....yet again Spazby, I am glad you are not in charge mate ;-)

You won't know unless you give them a go.

Stick with what we've got. Or, sell before we buy.

Having written all that, I wish we'd have kept Kolo.

There is no-one

Rekik is the closest but he's not ready and he's also on loan for the season

We need to buy

Do you want to win the league or fuck about with testing some unproven players who've never shown it yet? Who? Boyata?

sounds like Barry could be off to Everton...but it could depend on the sale (or not) of Fellaini.

I would completely agree but I'm concerned about his mental attitude. He didn't look right in his last game to me.

"his last game" meaning his preseason runout? i'm not sure i weight that higher than years of dedicated, professional service. He shit the bed at the end of last season on more than one occasion for sure, but i'm not sure that we've got a person that can do his role like he can do his role. I'd rather have Ant London running around out there than Garcia right now.

cheers

Barry doesn't normally 'do' less than 100%. Imo, he was less than 100% in the last couple of games after looking sharper than anyone else in the first one.
