I thought initially the ref did great by playing advantage, then giving the pen, but it was a red, deffo.

I thought the new rule this season was if it's a penalty and professional foul, it's a yellow now.

Somebody needs to tell Baron Greenback.

Anything other than at least a point for Villa and Paul Lambert deserves to feel aggrieved."

Is that right, it's now a yellow card offence ?

I will doublecheck, but as far as I was aware it was coming in with the goal line crap.

Good call by the ref there, Wilshere is a slimy little cunt causing shit and gets booked for it after he thought he got away with shoving another player.

I'd agree with it to be fair. Losing the goalkeeper and a penalty seems a little much to me.

Anyway, this Arsenal v Villa game is non-stop. Great game so far.

I'd not heard that either. I'm not sure how I feel about it, especially in the case of keepers (who are unlikely to go on and get a second yellow and therefore more willing to take a risk).

I'd say that it should still be a red if you're truly the LAST man (i.e. not even a keeper/covering defender between the challenge and the goal line), even if a penalty is awarded as well.

I disagree. What Sczezny (again, sic) did is effectively no different to an outfield player handling the ball on the line.

Loads of keepers will be more willing to make that kind of challenge now, as they know they won't pick up a second yellow.

It isn't though, it's like a player tackling another player and failing to get the ball.

The problem isn't the act, which is the same as any mistimed tackle, the problem comes with the fact that the keeper will ALWAYS be the last man and it will ALWAYS result in a penalty.

Meaning a keeper making a foul in his area, any foul, is always going to be a red card and a penalty.

I think a fairer way is to let the opposing captain decide, penalty or red card.

I'd be against tinkering with the rules to that extent. This isn't headers and volleys.

Still, only about 70% of penalties (at a guess) are successfully converted, so a pretty much meaningless yellow to the keeper and a spotkick being awarded isn't enough of a punishment for preventing a definite goal in my opinion.

If Sczezny knows he'll get a red if he goes down, Agbonlahor gets the goal he deserves and the game is all square. If he knows this and he still wants to take the risky lunge, then he deserves a red if he mistimes it as far as I'm concerned.

Ludicrous decision to book Luna there instead of Ox. Scandalous, in fact.
