This Weeks Other Games

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Heard Rekik did quite well tonight. Not bad at his age against a team like Milan. Still a long way to go for him but he seems to be on the right road.

Good luck to him.

By the way Maher looked like a real handful. I'll be trying to watch him again I think.

Made hardly any tackles? What was there to tackle with Milan playing on the break mostly. He fouled Balo a couple of times, looked a bit lost for El Shaarawy's goal, covered a couple of times for Bruma (including the TACKLE mentioned by Dameerto), lost some headers in no man's land, won the odd one.

Missed a sitter? Yeah, that'll be the one thing we'll be looking at in our 18 year old centre back. Fuckin dud, we should release him straight away.

All of your post is a complete over reaction.

There is nothing harsh about it at all. He isn't anywhere near good enough for the Premier League at this stage & is better off learning against proper teams than in our reserves. He isn't able to read the game well enough yet to get himself into positions where he can have an impact. He may learn it, he may not.

In time we'll see what he is made of.

If you think that's harsh & you can tell he's brilliant now & good enough for City, then you should be working for the club, because you are a football genius & could make a fortune picking out young players.

If my post is an overreaction, I don't know what I'd call yours or twosip's.

I never said he's good enough for City right now. I thought the first post about his performance was the most reasonable one, he did ok. Especially for a kid. Surrounded by a bunch of other kids.

Then you have to jump in & defend Lescott's honour again, out of nowhere, god knows why. Monitor him for the season & see how he does? No shit, Sherlock.

After you were kind enough to point out each of his mistakes & educate us all that he has to improve by 100% (!), the next joker goes all out & sharply declares that 'he only seems to have the potential to be a slightly poor man's Nastasic'. We better not bother then.

But my post is an overreaction, right? The one where I didn't predict the future of a fucking kid I have seen a handful of times, because I'm aware that I'm not in a position to do that? Football fuckin' genius... couldn't make it up.

And getting hung up about that missed header, because Lescott would've buried it, right? Pretty desperate.

Erm...how is my post an overreaction? I said he clearly has potential, but he was very, very average tonight and that I don't think he's ready yet. I think that's totally fair?

He barely covered anything hardly at all . He jumped for one important header all night & failed to clear it. He was completely unable to stick with Balotelli when Balotelli ran off him. Luckily, Milan didn't pass to Balotelli at those moments, so there was no embarrassment for Rekik as he was trailing in Mario's wake. He is apparently doing well for PSV & good luck to him, I hope he improves sufficiently with practice but at the moment he lacks pace, height/aerial strength & the ability to read the game & position himself accordingly.

He is in the right place to learn & one day we will make a decision on him. I imagine we will let him go but I agree with Twosips, that it's not impossible he could make a midfield player, so pehaps he gets two cracks at it rather than one.

It is an over reaction.

You are jumping on everything as if the points raised are unfair, when all people are saying is what was pretty obvious; that Rekik played like a kid learning to be a defender. Not a young Maldini or Bobby Moore, or the next Dave Watson, or even Nastasic, just 'a kid'. He didn't show any special ability but he did show several flaws. Nobody is being harsh, just being truthful. And the header he missed was poor; he knew it.

You may accept a piss poor header but he clearly didn't.

If he had done something to show great pronise, I would be talking about that. He didn't.

Perhaps he will do at the San Siro, in which case I will be cheering him on, but from what I've seen so far he is not anywhere close to reaching the required level. That's not harsh, just honest.

You like to concentrate on negatives don't you? Then when people try to offer balance you react like they are suggesting he's some superstar in the making. I think you had made your mind up before the kickoff.

The 'balance' people are offering is totally out of proportion to what he actually did. It's like giving him credit for standing up or not scoring an own goal.

Yes, I like to concentrate on the negatives. That's the whole idea when assessing whether a defender is good enough; find out what his weaknesses are & try to judge whether he has shown anything to suggest that he can fix them & therefore be of some use to MCFC.

I didn't watch the match with the idea of going 'ooh look he almost followed Balotelli there but he didn't quite, but well done for trying though lad!' ' he's only eighteen you know' I watched it to find out if he looks good enough to play for City next season, as some on here would have had him doing this season! He didn't show anything. He tried his absolute best to stick with Balotelli but several times Mario shrugged him off in 3 paces. That means Sturridge loses him in two & RVP has probably already lost him.

I'll try to keep an eye out for him later in the season, in case he had a bad night, & see if he shows anything more or whether it's down to the standard of the league being poor. As it stands, he isn't close to being a City player & physically, it's doubtful he can play for us in that position. He doesn't appear to get off the ground well enough to be a Premier League cb.

The header he missed because he thought the defender jumping in front of him had it covered. The mistake he made was not anticipating that the defender might miss it which meant he had no time to react. To give him grief for missing a "sitter" is pure bollox.

They're not worth it mate, unless they lose of course. You probably want to get the 2nd leg in if it's close.

Ted, how can you be so critical after watching him in 1 game? He played 1 game for us last season and did quite well (we won, I think) before being shipped out to Blackburn and getting very few starts. He's now moved onto PSV where he's started all their games, sat top of the league with only 2 goals against (came in 1st game, away) and has now played against the likes of Mario where they came away with a credible draw.

The lad is gaining valuable experience of 1st team football and this loan spell seems to be doing him the world of good.

Lyon, Schalke, AC Milan and Arsenal, if two of those lose their qualifier, we get into the 2nd pot, otherwise we could have another group of death and I really want us to get out of the group this year, I pray to Navas every night.
