Top of the Table

Postby AG7 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 10:37 am

Right, end of Gameweek 1 and it's nice to look at the PL table ...

I commented in one of the other threads (jokingly, I admit) that I'd like us to take the top spot from week 1 and then stay there forever ... now that I look at the fixtures ahead for us vs. for the Scum and Chelsea, I have to say that is the only way we'll actually win the title. Because to win, we'll surely have to win against the promoted sides and they are the next two games, during which they both (Chelsea and Scum) play each other (so one of them has to drop points, or ideally a draw will see them both fall behind). Then there is the derby in Gameweek 5 so another chance to really gain advantage over the Scum at least ...

So come November, we *should* be sitting comfortably ahead of the other two ... not saying that we'd walk it and have it all wrapped up by February but the fact that the way fixtures are for the three, we could put a decent gap in between us and them and seriously if one of them at any point then takes us over (at the top of the table) that'd only be if we seriously falter ... so for us (if we do win the title this season), I don't see us giving up that top spot all the way to the end.

Chelsea play Villa tomorrow, so even a draw sees them both above us

I get the point of AG7's thread, it's not so much about being top of the table in week 1 as about taking an early lead. We all know there'll be hurdles along the way, but the stronger our campaign is in the first few months, the less difficult it will be to maintain our advantage or play catch up.

I'm happy. The first battle won and now aiming our sights at Cardiff with a view to proving the first game was no fluke (Toon down to 10 and all that).

How unfair is that, 2 teams playing an extra game than us just so they can sit at the top for a few days!

As long as were top in May I don't care who has a turn at being top.

Being top now means fuck all, I seem to remember we were top during the early stages of last season.
A long long road ahead, with many twists and turns.
Lest just worry about beating Cardiff for now.
