They still won when it really mattered. Now they are a championship side coming to us with nothing to lose as nobody will expect anything of them.

Sadly we can't exorcise that demon, no matter what we do.

I hope we pick a balanced side for this. I want to stay in this competition so the kids can get a chance to play, but we need to be solid, not just throw them in randomly.

Mancini made a really horrible fuck up of it last year, putting two kids in crucial positions in an unbalanced side, with half fit Barry, whilst trying out bizarre tactical experiments, with players who have rarely played together. They had no chance against a proper organised team.

If we are going to play some kids, put them in a nice solid, balanced team & give them chance to show what they can do, then perhaps introduce more of them if it is working.

Ok I see a dilemma here. This tie is in midweek after the derby at the weekend, we have both been drawn at home!!! Cannot see the police allowing rags, scoucers, pie eaters and city fans out in the city centre on the same night!!

Which means either us or the rags will play on Tuesday after playing a 4pm Sunday kickoff.

To be fair WW, isn't it time we showed that we can compete in every league? Looking at our squad, we shouldn't be worrying about such things.

The team Pellegrini picks for this game will tell us a lot about him as a manager. Is he worried about his job (moyles/mourinho) or is he a man with a mission. Either way, I'd take the trophy.

Absolutely agree, I'm not one to slag Mancini but I was furious with him that night against Villa. It was clear after about an hour that Razak's head was going down but Bobby left him out there to flounder until deep into extra time. Hopefully, as you say, he will get a chance at redemption with a competitive side around him.

I hope his mission is to deliver the first trophy at the end of February when the League Cup final is played, so I hope he will choose a side accordingly.

Agree that revenge isn't possible as our non-performance back in May still hurts more than a win here could appease.

However, I would love to win the 3 handled pot, and a win at home against Wigan puts us into the last 16. Its a very winnable trophy, and trophies are why we bother playing, so with our squad size we should be looking to take this seriously and lift the bloody thing at the end of Feb.

The only revenge I wanted at the time was on our own team, still goes down as piss take from certain players with an agenda.

Too true. Even if we beat them 18-0, they still get to keep the FA Cup in their trophy cabinet (along with Dave Wheelan's broken leg, of course).

Sorry mate, might have read it wrong. I was thinking that you were a bit worried about playing a couple of games so close together.

Obviously not. Dirty Rags ;-)
