I'd agree with the last two.

The winners will come from us, the rags, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs. The last two are the outsiders and I'm not sure Arsenal has strengthened in the right areas to sustain a full season challenge.

So that leaves us, the rags and Chelsea. Whilst we're terrible at the moment, we're also above those two, which says a lot about how early into a fragmented season it is. Personally, I thought Chelsea would walk it with their squad and the best manager of the three, but they're struggling so far.

The next couple of weeks will be crucial - if we win the derby, it will look rosier, lose it'll look dreadful and draw and we could both be looking nervously at the gap to Liverpool, considering their lack of European games.

One problem with this debate is it's clouded by personal feelings towards Mancini and the justification of his sacking. It was similar when he replaced Hughes, there were months of bickering about how 'nothing has changed', 'we would have won that under Hughes' and 'this is slow and boring football'.

Thinking back to when Mancini came in, even the early games we won were pretty uninspiring, Stoke 2-0 at home. Good result, poor performance. What about the shambles at Hull a few weeks later? In fact, Mancini came in with a briefing to get us into the top four and we failed. However, he was given the TIME to build on the positives - improved defence, better tactics - and concentrate on making our attacking game better. It was infinitely better the year after, we finished 3rd and won the FA Cup. Fast forward another 12 months and we'd won the title.

Now rewind back again to early 2010. A lot of the arguments being presented against Pellegrini now are mirror images of those being levelled at Mancini then. Surely, then, we've all learned a lesson about rash judgments?

The reality is that he's not going to be sacked this week, next week or next month, no matter how much people want it. I happen to think we'll get stronger as our new players familiarise with each other and their surroundings, and the old guard adapt to their manager's way of thinking. If we don't, and there are no signs of improvement in six months' time, it becomes a more relevant conversation.

Until then, let's give the man some room to breathe.

Exactly mate.

The agendas are so nauseating it's hard to even read some of the "debates", let alone try to add any reason to them.

As you said, the first few games under Mancini (and many, many more) were mind numbingly bad, but I don't recall him being called a "clown". I would have laughed that off if it happened. The same way I'm laughing this off right now.

Big difference, Mancini was a winner, CV full of trophies. Pellegrini no trophies in 9 years. Hence scepticism now and optimism then.

Calling him a clown after 4 matches sums you up.

Laughable.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

Except for Real Madrid, Pellegrini has not managed anyone hjn europe that had a realistic chance of winning anything. Semi final of champs league with Villareal and 2nd place in la liga with same team are good achievments. As was quarter final with malaga. 2nd place with madrid and 96 points only for barca being out of this world with 99 points did he not win la liga. The Count is a gud manager.

That's why you are calling our manager a clown, is it?

No, that would be the utter mess we are witnessing on the pitch.

So because of the last three games, you call our manager a clown?

Ridiculous, but not at all surprising.

Your agenda is there for all to see.
Quite sad really.

I would say Pellegrini has a better CV prior to taking our job than Mancini had. Neil Lennon has won lots of titles but it does not make him a better manager than David Moyes. Mancini was talking to footballing giants West Ham and Blackburn after he got the tin tac from Inter. He was very much the only decent choice out there when Hughes did get the boot.

Mancini lost his job because the teams in a mess and under performing - not necessarily all mancinis fault but pellegrini needs time to fix those problems - they haven't just appeared over the summer

Brilliant post and nail on head.

To call him a clown when he hasn't even settled in is completely agenda ridden

Exactly. I'm concerned that we haven't improved this season (incl pre-season) and I can't quite see what we're trying to achieve to make it better, but the problems have been there for 12 months.

I can live with fixing one thing breaking another - Mancini massively improved the leaky defence when he came in at the cost of entertainment, but at the moment it looks like we've broken everything and I'm not sure what he's trying to repair. Although Hart looked better on Saturday, so maybe he's starting from the back.

Saturday we had the Keystone Cops in defence, Chaplin and Harold Lloyd in midfield and Buster Keaton up front. Why is it unreasonable to call him a clown? He looks like a man in total shock and out of his depth. No agenda, Mancini is gone, he isn't coming back so what would be the point in an agenda? We have people who don't yet understand the premier league in charge and they have made a very unsuitable choice. Is going to be a long haul until they either get to grips with it or fuck off, might as well laugh about it. I started the season sceptical but optimistic. Went to a tad concerned. I am now just amused at our ability to still be typical city!

If typical City is a few shady performances a month into the season yet still 4th, with three clean sheets out of four and the best goal difference in the league then my memory of how things used to be is a little off!

If we'd won all four games 5-0 playing total football, it would equally be way too early to draw conclusions.
