Anybody think this set of [strike]bought[/strike] English talent is anything like they stumbled across 20 years ago?

Never forget that when City beat Utd 5-1 in Ferguson's first away derby (3 years after he'd joined Utd), the United squad was the most expensive ever assembled in British football. Utd under Ferguson spent more than anyone else before he found his first success. What City have done in recent years is attempt to catch up and have had to spend big to do that. It wasn't a level playing field.

Once City's Academy and new facilities are fully operational the youth production line at City will sustain City's success and position for decades. We won't be relying on expensive signings. I think deep down Utd know this and are already starting to show signs of panic.

Gary,
Taking your point about the rags maybe fearing what we are now building for the future and them getting in a panic about it...

Whilst the initial rag rise was based purely on finance (buying their success), their later push for dominance was in concert with the other major G14 clubs and their coercion of EuFA and the changes they forced UeFA to make to the structure and financial rules of the European competitions. Latterly, their efforts to ensure their ill gotten gainsare safeguarded by the FFPR.

More recently, and seemingly not very well reported by the rag media, is the political movements of the likes of Gadzidis (Arsenal) and the 2 rags into the higher corridors of football power.

Any comments Mate?

I share those concerns and am watching carefully. I also have a feeling that if City and some of the other new threats to European footy's dominant clubs get stronger and start to curtail the days of Munich, Utd, Barca, Madrid, Milan and others chance of glory or financial situation then we'll see a breakaway European League (perhaps in addition to domestic competition because I don't think they're that daft!) with maybe a closed shop or even faux-franchise system whereby clubs bid to be the franchise holder for certain regions or nations. Those clubs with a history of Euro involvement will be given automatic entry, leaving Manchester with only one representative. We often talk about how the PL changed football but if the Euro elite (in their eyes!) decide to create a true Euro League then that will swamp anything the PL did.

Football's all about money and it's those clubs that are petrified of losing their way that will ultimately do all they can to protect themselves - together! City need to keep working to develop strong relationships and positive news which is good for the game in general so that when the day comes that the Reds and others try to close ranks, we're able to stop them and show how bad it is for the game. I see Borussia Dortmund as similar to us - UEFA may openly be positive about the club but in truth Dortmund with their vast support and recent challenges are upsetting those supposed giants (who actually have less average support!).

I think the new kids on the block are looking strong, PSG have had false dawns, but look the real deal now. The investment the owners of gods own club looks planned and long term. The GFY 14 are cowards and will ditch anyone or anything if a new gang look like they have power. I think the likes of Bayern who are the movers behind the scenes, are used to networking Both Spanish giants have new owners and direction every 8 yrs, so they are used to change. The rags are in a delicate moment The Woodword guy is running them form London part time is some eyes at the swamp, Even the network around the old manager has left in teh last weeks to join Ferguson's payroll. No Gill, massive blow to the oily wheels. Even Custis sounded like he had a new script on Sunday night, not the one Red nose would write for him after a tonking. Moyes is going to get time. They have few options BTW.

Just as important as networking is making sustained progress in European competition. Not winning the CL necessarily but doing well enough to command respect.

At present Arsenal are regarded more seriously than us - and rightly so. However this year's campaign could be our launching pad.

Is that their way of trying to stop the fans from binning their season tickets?

Not sure after all the failings they had in the transfer market I'd own up to another one. I mean if they offered over th 86 million Real paid and still didn't get him I wouldn't be most pleased as a fan. Keep it going Gollum

The famed Bale bid, in the same envelope really as the Thiago bid, Fabregas bid, Ronaldo bid, Sneijder bid etc, is classic show bidding, ie linking oneself to players or leaking news of bids that you know wont be successful.

A believe the urban dictionary for this kind of action is calling Radcliffe on something, ie starting something off that you have absolutely no intention of completing successfully, in honour of the GB runner who pulled up lame more often than bloody Rodwell does.

It appeases an extremely gullable, largely stupid fanbase and aids the Utd PR machine in the press which is in full overdrive now.

A derby drubbing wont fill those quadrants or megastore will it?

ha ha ha, jst saw SSN say thet moyes is 2nd on the all time list of managers with the 2nd best win% in their first 8 games as a new manager...WTF? They do however, fail to mention that none of those managers inherited a title winning squad. Amazes me what they will do to try and keep the scum rag twats in a positive light.

I just heard on the radio when I switched on that under pressure Moyes needs to continue his "winning run" on Saturday

Re Gary's comments. I am particularly worried regarding the risk of further US owners having influence on European and EPL clubs - they would wish to have such a closed shop/franchise system in place - it would seen the correct model to them

Looking long term, perhaps the best that we can hope to achieve is to entrench our position in the 'elite', a little like Chelsea have seemingly wormed their way in - before the big change comes - because I am sure it will as there is too much money at stake. I wonder if Soriano's appointment, recognising his likely established relationships, was mindful of this need.

Lets just hope that the old guard members that lose out are only in England so the rest do not get motivated for a break-away league - Gill's recent move is a real concern.

This morning SSN was all over it, apparently a win against Liverpool in the shit cup goes a long way to making up for sundays demolition. You'd think no other teams played in the Carling cup this week.
