Both had 3 league starts, Sturridge had 10 in all competitions, Evans 5. So, I guess your claim was correct:

So Sturridge had 26 appearances in all competitions, 10 as starts, and scored 4 goals. We should definitely have paid him whatever he wanted to keep him.

His form over the last 12 months shows he's finally realising his potential. I'm not sure anyone could have said he'd be worth that 4 years ago, especially as if we'd kept him, he'd be on another new contract by now.
