Bayern are fucking awesome. Better than Barca were two seasons ago.
We are nowhere near their level. It got to the stage where we were being so dominated that you could almost start to admire Bayern's play.

Whatever tactics we set up we would have got fuck all tonight imo. They're a class above.

You can tell by the crowd who seem to be suffering from imposter syndrome in these CL nights that we have zero confidence in Europe. People talk about special European nights at Anfield, Old Trafford and Parkhead where the crowd is the twelve man. We sit there in silence waiting on it going wrong. It was as quiet as a library tonight.

We didn't have to wait long for it to go wrong.

If we do get out, we'll probably face Real, Barca, PSG or Athletico. I don't see us beating any of them and that's not just based on tonight's performance.

Agree with the first part but not the second.

Bayern tonight were one of the best sides I've ever seen in the flesh, but none of them were amongst the best players I've seen. It was a team effort where the whole is better than the individuals, it was in fact 'holistc'.

Robben & Ribery are very good but they are not Ronaldo, Messi, Ronaldinho etc level. They didn't need to be. They were cogs in a machine. If they had played under Moyes, we would have probably dealt with them, but Pep seems to be every bit as good as Tricky says he is. Which means we have to match him.

I predicted this scenario before the season started, when people were talking about us playing without cover behind Yaya/Fernandinho. I have repeated it many times since. Dortmund (the example I used) would probably have turned us over again tonight, but Bayern are another level entirely, they are a different class to Dortmund.

However, it is potentially stoppable & it is potentially possible to reproduce what they do.

The question is: will the Count learn from it & adapt our football ? Or will he just blunder on, with his head up his own arse, attempting random tactical shite like Mancini did ?

We can give these a game, but not if we play 3.5 v 6 in midfield.

Try matching them, & see how it goes. I recon it would be close.

Pellegrini got his fucking arse handed to him tonight by Pep, just like Bob did by that cunt with the National Health Service glasses last season.

Learn.

Bayern were fantastic - there's no doubt about that.

But we were absolutely shocking. Pellegrini got absolutely everything wrong tonight, coupled with several players putting in poor performances.

The issue is we've been seeing the same problems since pre-season and nothing appears to be changing.

This very much.
As great as Bayern are, there's no explanation getting beaten like that at home. Player by player they are no better than us in anywhere but midfield. They just know how to play as a team. Something we aren't currently doing.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

This discussion begs the question: why is he sticking with this?

Does he think that Yaya and Fernie are so good that the two of them should be able to beat any midfield in the world? Should they be getting assistance from other players that aren't stepping up? Are the players being too slow to take to the system? How flexible is he prepared to be with his system and what will it take for him to change?

Any manager should live and die by their principles. If that's the way you play, then play it. Better to be sacked doing it your way then doing what the masses tell you, and getting sacked anyway.

I have missed the last three games as I have been away and as the scores came through thought we must be getting better 3-0 4-1 5-0, then came back to this... Our manager was simply clueless walking round with his hand in his pocket, no passion, no leadership, picked the wrong team, let it all go too far to retrieve any hope before making the subs that were obvious to everyone else in the ground.

I understand the decision to get rid of Mancini, don't agree with it as he will always be my hero for what he achieved, but there were clear issues that the club felt could only be resolved by replacing him, but #1 rule in any business is if you sack the manager, you do so to bring someone better in to replace them, this new guy is not an upgrade..... Ok so we missed out on Pep and the Special One, but why then turn to the clueless one....

Casting our minds back to the Emirates last season. It was a carbon copy, Home team that like to have high stats on Possesion were denied the ball, same as Wed night, out thought & overun. There was a thread on it I think.
