Fragile Komps

Any update on captain fantastic's injury?

Is it only me or someone else too thinks he's not all that great as he's being made out to be ... Consider the whole of last season? Yes he had a fantastic game two weeks ago against the Scum but so did Joe Hart against Dortmund last year ... a one off in 18 months or so ...

I know I'll get a backlash here for even questioning the 'captain fantastic' but he goes missing at times ... and not just at times within a game but it's the whole games he's gone missing from during the season which fucks up our back line ...

He missed quite a few games last season and the way it's looking he'll be missing quite a few this time around too ...

Let me clarify again, our issue is not him as a defender but him being so fragile that he misses games for us (his fault or not) and in his absence we have issues as we keep shuffling the back 4, and this too could be adding to Joe's woes!!

I must admit im very concerned about the frequency he gets injured. He is a top defender but no good to us on the treatment table.

A backlash,a backlash,you need a head wobble slapping.

Go to the kitchen pour yourself a herbal tea and think on.

Kompany may have had a few injuries and a few bookings but what defender doesn't? he is our captain and i might add one of the best we have EVER had.

It is a rough run he is going through but Vincent is the rock our team is built on.

But back to the question the op raised.......if the rock aint there for much of the ime, its not much fuckin use is it?

Its a bit worrying the frequency of his injuries recently, given how much we do seem to rely on him - although the op was right in saying the komps was well off the pace for most of the games he played last season too.

With a fully fit and on form vincent, we would be a very different proposition on a more consistent basis

He was mediocre last season but has been good to excellent this season...when healthy. I am going to light a candle for him and Demicelis...we need one of them back pronto.

Agreed.I really dont think any defender in world football at present can hold a candle to Vince when fit. When fit being the major issue here.Worst thing is the fact its the same injury time and again. Its a worrying pattern.

His injuries are a real concern. Our side usually plays with much more confidence when he plays, although it was nice to see our defence stand firm yesterday after he left the field.

Form-wise...he didn't have his best season last season, although having to partner Nastasic would probably do that to most top class centre backs. He is an absolute warrior though and you know he'll put in the big performances when it matters, e.g. the United 4-1 a couple of weeks back.

After letting Kolo go in the summer, we should have got another centre back in. Whilst I think Fernandinho looks reasonably good, we didn't need to buy him, and the £30m price is just embarrassing. We should have used some of those funds for a defender.

Hopefully Demichelis will be fit soon to challenge for a place, although if he was THAT good, I wonder why Pellegrini didn't bring him over from Malaga for free at the beginning of the summer.

Lescott looked rusty in the first 25 mins yesterday but after that he was excellent. If we can partner him and Kompany up again, then our defence will start looking strong again.

people gave me shit for saying that we should seriously question replacing both him and Richards. yes, when theyre fit and in form theyre both fantastic, especially Vinnie, but both are way too injury prone and our reliance on them butt fucks us when they constantly get injured. we should seriously look into replacing both of them during the needed rehaul of our defense (CH and back up RB and GK). it doesnt matter how good you are. if you arent on the pitch and not useful and contributing then whats the point of keeping you around.

Once again i believe your idea of moving on Kompany is a non runner.

I think whether we like it or not he probably needs to take it slowly this time, he needs to ease himself back it always seems a bit rushed with his comebacks.I don't know if that's an over eagerness on his own behalf but he always seems to jump back in be it for club or country. He might benefit from taking it slowly this time around.

Anyway every player runs the risk of injury so who can say the next bloke we sign does not get injured.Look at Demichelis for instance he had hardly set foot on english soil and he now has his ass positioned firmly on the injury table.Thats no fault of his own but shit happens.

Ok so you would replace both players with......? How do you find a player tgat will.never get injured. Your logic is flawed here. The whole reason we have a SQUAD is for this type of scenario

I think a lot of it is because he tries to play through. We had the incident when he 1st came and playing through the toe injury then he started getting further niggling injuries. Then there was the injury last season when Mancini gave him a rifting for playing for Belgium. I honestly was astounded that he went against club advice and feel that he wasn't 100% after that game.

We need to get these issues sorted out and give him time to get himself straight. Trying to play the game these days requires the body to be be in tip-top condition and any niggle can aggrevate other areas that now have to take the strain.

I agree, Beefster.

It would be in Vinnie's own best interests, however, for him to get fit and playing properly before the world cup finals. It is in City's best interests to get him fit so he doesn't break down again. If that means he has to miss a number of matches now then so be it.

Who could City buy that would adequately replace him?

At his best he's peerless, but he's injury prone to the extent that I'd like to see a top-class youngish central defender bought in the summer. Our third choice central defender needs to be outstanding because he's going to get a lot of games. For the record, I thought the defence coped well in his absence yesterday.

I wouldn't mind seeing this new defender once he is back from injury. I can't handle lescott and nasti together.
