Mark Halsey - What Did He Really Say?

Postby Beefymcfc » Thu Oct 10, 2013 4:51 pm

With the little feud that's been running I was wondering what Mark Halsey was actually saying without actually saying too much. Well, for me the below statements say everything we need to know. What's your take?

Mark Halsey:

[PGMOL] are running the whole show on an apparent power trip while creating an atmosphere of fear and paranoia.

That is not helping the weaker officials improve and the system often confuses and frequently frustrates the best referees who get mixed messages about what is expected of them.

Graham Poll:

“He is 100 per cent betraying what paid him a living, which he would never have earned as the warehouse manager he was or the taxi driver he was.

"The refereeing fraternity is absolutely appalled at what he is doing. He hasn’t thought it through.

“Mark has got to take a long, hard look at himself. He won’t. I know the guy.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

I like halsey and I like that he's talking out about referees, about time someone did, the man had a life threatening diseases doubt he gives a fuck what Poll has to say.

I think that is a statement to where Halsey is coming from. This was the establishment that was supposed to have his back but by the looks of it, from Poll's statement, they thought it was a good excuse to see the back of him.

What's interesting is that Halsey intimates that Riley, and a few others, have the full run of the PGMOL which only answers to the Premier League. How can that be impartial? Halsey's comments spark a reaction in Poll who states that Halsey shouldn't bite the hand that feeds/fed him, but obvously in a nasty and vindictive way. In essence, trying to discredit him in a child-like way.

An interesting part in all this is that the PL ref's get a silence payment of 50 g's if they are let go or retire. Why is that, why would a professional agency, who is impartial, have to pay one of their members 50 grand to keep quiet about what is an innocent affair?

There is only one reason that referees are secretive....they have secrets.

And why are our referees a limited company?

Trust them....not one little bit....not even a teeensy little bit.

I'd like to say that he said 'did you like the extra 6 minutes I added on?' but it was more a "Well done for getting promotion" and then he got sceranaded with "there's only 1 Mark Halsey . . . . "

So, it wasn't a chat, more a drunken thumble ;-)

I just see this as proof that the ref's are told how to referee games by the powers that be. All those years believing that something was up has basically been vindicated with those little statements.

Many thought that the ref's weren't giving the Rags their usual goal every 2 games because of the departure of the old Piss-Can but the reality is that they knew this was coming out and realised they would be under the spotlight from the get-go.

You never know, Halsey may have been given the nod in our game as well.

Obviously.

...and I categorically deny doing anything intimate with Gillie. We are only friends...obviously.

How much is PL football worth I worldwide TV rights? Several hundred million at a guess, maybe into billions. And every week there are 19 men allowed to determine how good a spectacle it will be and in many ways, who will win

In return for such a high pressure job, they are paid around £70k a year. Or less than a third what Shrek, RVP, Yaya etc earn per week.

Seems an odd mix and you'd think it'd put them at risk of falling for betting syndicates who can offer them big money for an odd decision. You'd hope someone is checking up on them to make sure they all stay honest, as we've seen in Europe and in other sports that people can be easily corrupted.

Same goes for players - when Walters scored two own goals and missed a penalty in the same game last season, did anyone investigate it? I'm sure it was just one of those days, but are the authorities asleep at the wheel?
