Goals on Sunday had a segment where they showed just how common 'mistakes' like Joe's on Saturday are, using the goals that Howard and Ruddy conceded as prime examples.

Hart got a good strong hand to that and imo should have been able to save it. Hart of two seasons ago would easily have saved that.
It doesn't matter what Howard or Ruddy do. That's not our concern.

I was addressing the point raised the OP, which is my concern should I deem it so.

As for the 'Hart of two seasons ago' nonsense, that's a very watery argument.

I'd also point out that Lukaku scores loads of goals like the one he put past Joe; he bagged an identical one against Newcastle last week. A quickly-spinning grasscutter is more difficult than it looks to keep out. (Which isn't to say that it shouldn't have been saved, but it certainly was not a howler.)

They're not "jumping all over him" because he isn't England's number one.

The did exactly the same with Carson, Foster, Green, Robinson. etc

In what way is the media any different from City fans. Did you not see the drop Hart thread? He has been alarming under performing for club and country. If he had dropped another ricket at the weekend he would have quite rightly have been under more scrunity.

Ruddy plays for Norwich, has never been a top class keeper and is not England's number 1. No one quite rightly gives a shit that he made a mistake.

I don't see why it's nonsense tbh. A few seasons ago, even before he went on loan to Birmingham aswell as after he was a truly exceptional shot stopper. It generally took a really good strike to beat him. This season, any shot on target he looks like conceding.

It wasn't a howler no.

'He'd have saved/scored/got to that x-amount of years ago' is just one of those pointless cliches that get in my nerves.

A personal thing. Don't worry about it.

The England number one goalkeeper position is the most poisoned position in football. I swear the media get together once a new custodian is between the post and see how quickly they can destroy their careers. I really think they get off on it. It's happened to every single one for the past 10 years and Joe is no different. It's a disgrace IMO.

David James was in the studio for BT and he made the same comment for Hart and Howard for Aguero's goal - they were too close to the player making the shot and didn't have time to react. A yard back and they'd have both saved them.

Suppose that's the difficulty with being a keeper - no one in the press has mentioned Kolarov wandering back or Distin allowing Aguero to run past him, but the keepers get picked up on any mistake as they were the last ones to blame.

Interesting comment by DJ. The closer you are to the shooter the easier it is to cut out the angle. The farther away you are, yes you get more time but you also give the shooter more time to pick their spot.

Shay given is a classic stay back and dive keeper. Joe is a rush and slide.

Get at em nice and early before they have a chance to think. Yep, I'm a rusher.

He said for Hart that he was well past his near post, which he felt was too far. He also said Howard had been too aggressive in rushing Aguero. That they both led to goals means he was probably right, but as with any of these things there will be inches between poor and perfect positioning.

I have heard a couple of opinions from ex-pros (one was Andy Goram, so has keeper knowledge) that Hart is doing something wrong technically which could be sorted in a few days of training. It'll be interesting if the latest coach can work it out and sort it. Not sure who England's keeping coach is these days, but hopefully they'll have spotted it and helped him over the last week.
