However he obviously had his reasons for staying put. Also think jf you were a professional footballer playing for City & were good enough to go to a better club, would you. I've got to say i'd never play for the rags or dippers out of principle. Wouldnt want to live in London so that rules out the cockneys & theres not much then to choose from. Maybe him & his family were settled/happy & didnt want upheavel. That said it certainly cost him an International career & when you look at the standard of some of the players in the current squad its criminal

Le tissier could have left southampton many times, but he loved it down there, he had his missus/mistress there too, his lifestyle was not on a par with what is expected from todays pro's either. The healthy living would have been a massive shock to his system. He did have it all though, exceptional player on his day.

Gerrard? I know he's won chumps league & 4/5 other cups but when someone like Phil Neville has won 6 prem titles you wonder if Gerrard had gone to Chelski in 2004 what he and Chelski might have won. Doubt the rags would have laid their hands on at least 2 of their trophies not to mention their lucky chumps league win. Dippers have been shit for a while & while he's had a good career, when he's talking to his grandkids & they see his medals he's got to be disappointed not to have won prem league.
