The Season So Far?

Postby Beefymcfc » Thu Oct 17, 2013 7:30 pm

Now that the Internationals are over and we're back to the hustle and bussle of the Premier League, I'm just wondering how you think the season has gone so far?

A quick look at the supposed top teams so far:

Arsenal - played some decent football and Ozil has brought the best out in them leaving them currently top of the league. The question is, can they continue? They've played mainly the lower teams so far with only Spurs being one you could class as a top six, which I think they were lucky to win. They've done well in Europe and we'll have to see if their squad can handle the pressures of many a game. No surprise they are top after what we saw pre-season.

Liverpool - like last season they look a busy team who show all the attributes of pushing on yet they are very prone to losing a key player or 2 to injury. I think Rogers is putting a good side together but the lack of mental fortitude may see them drop back. Started off well and with no distractions of Europe they maybe the surprise package.

Chelsea - they've looked awful in some games but they still come away with the points. The Rag game was depressive and in true Mourinho style they set out not to drop points. Looked better since Mata came back in and Maureen even tried to save face by saying he's a changed player. Has the 'Special One' factor run its course?

Tottenham - from what I've seen they've ground out results but not really looked like a team that can score many. Prone to getting hit on the break they look like a team that's been shoehorned together. Will the Prem take it's toll with so many new players, I can see it happening.

Rags - they remind me of us last season, as if they've hit the rocks after a full weekend session. Their football has been turgid (similar to Chelsea) but you can't rule them out when it comes against the lesser teams. They have had the hardest start compared to most but that doesn't alleviate the problems they seem to be facing, one being that the lesser teams are having a pop. Is it Moyes, is it Taggart, I'm not sure but if they don't start sparking this could be the worst defence of a title 'Ever'.

City - looking at the games we have been the most exciting to date, very Keegan'esque like. A few mistakes in the Prem have left us a few points off the lead but if one of those games was different and we held out we'd be happily sat at the top of the league. Very promising in the league and within striking distance of the top but the losses have been hard to take. The Munich game had us all screaming but we can take sanctity in the thought that they are so good. Do we look like Premier League Champions, I wouldn't bet against it.

Everton - had to mention them as I think Martinez' team will be very hard to beat and I wonder if he can do a job with a good team. Outside chance for a top 4 spot and with the Saints playing such good football, I wouldn't be surprised to see them both scrapping it out for a European slot.

Anyway, what's your thoughts?

All part of it mate and if they somehow sprung up upon us then it's not the Internationals that are the problem. Having a world class team has its drawbacks but they should be able to fight through. If they can't, they shouldn't be here.

The Premier League title is ours to lose depending on two things imho .....

Firstly Pellegrini needs to sort our away form and tactics out ASAP !

Secondly Joe Hart re finding his confidence and returning to his best !

Also next wednesday,s game in the CL in Moscow is pivotal , get some sort of result there and we should qualify through the group stage for the first time = MASSIVE !
Not really here

This would be almost as gratifying as us winning the league.

I think the race closer to the finish line will be between City and Arse, with the others mentioned not far behind, and the rags just missing out on a Europa league spot on goal difference to Everton/Southampton.

Agree with this.

Even though teams have strengthened, we have the best squad in the Prem by a country mile & we are better than Moscow.

We did last season as well though & should also have been better than Ajax.

It's arsenal or liverpools to lose. Spurs are in with a shout.

Those three all look better than us, the rags and Chelsea who are all complete turds so far.

Are you serious? Theres 31 games left. Liverpool and Spurs will fade away. Arsenal are serious contenders. How do they look better than us? Were the top scorers in the league. Using your logic, Southampton must be in with a chance then.

I think he's being literal. They're on top therefore it's currently theirs to lose.

Arsenal look good, but I still think either end of the pitch will hurt them at some point. Definitely a bigger challenge, time will tell if they're still short though.

Pool might upset a few, but I still don't see top 4 in their future.

Spurs look economical and competent, but still lack the killer edge for me.

Beware Chelsea, I still see them as favs.

United please let them be out for the count.

I would suggest that all them teams you mentioned should worry about us. Especially when the Champs league break kicks in.

I didn't mention us as there's debate everywhere about us. Of course we are in the reckoning. Just don't wanna jinx it

Us winning the league isn't dependant on what you do or don't say. So don't worry you can't "jinx" it.

There's a first, nobody arguing with my assessment ;-)

I don't think Arsenal or Liverpool can be properly assessed until they've played a decent team. The Arse have only really played Spurs which they were lucky to beat, Liverpool have only really played the Rags whilst Chelsea and the Rags have already played a few of the probable top 6. We've had the Rags and Everton where we demolished both and that's where I think the game will lie. We just need to stop the fuck ups at the back and we'll be fine.

Oh it's an argument you're after Beefy? Ok then, we didn't demolish Everton, they were the better team for most of the first half. How do you like them apples? ;)

ps we'd be top of the league if it wasn't for Joe.

It's our away form (in the Prem at least).

In Europe, we've had two so called top managers setting up like complete fucking clueless dickheads against top sides & been outplayed on our own pitch because of it, as well as some below par performances from the players, but in the league, at home, only Arsenal & Liverpool have outplayed us in recent times that I can remember (& neither won).

Away from home, we had that brief fantastic spell culminating in the 6-1, then were lucky to beat QPR in the next game & were often bobbins for most of the season, then suddenly went brilliant again for the last few games.

Last season we fucked up plenty away from home & this season is the same already.

Sort that & we win the league. Fail to sort it & we don't, especially this season, as teams have strengthened & one or two may possibly pinch a result at our place meaning we need to get the points back. Not many will bother us at home though; our problems will be 90% away from home.

We are capable of battering everyone in this league on their own pitch & have underperformed for several seasons now. Sort it out.

If we sort our away form we will win the league. I can see us winning about 17 home games.
