Chelsea V Manchester City
Stamford Bridge
Kickoff 4pm 27/10/2013
I've wrote many things over the years but this is the first time I have turned my hand to writing a match preview, so please be kind.
It's Chalk V Cheese as these titans of the English Football do battle for the first time this season.
Mr Mourinho and Mr Pellegrini Couldn't be anymore different. The self professed special one is arrogant but the darling of the media. The other a quiet likable character with a lot of respect throughout the footballing world.
Mourinho has tried with the mind games but showing his class Pellegrini has not taken the bait. So what of the history between these two men. During there time in La liga they met 5 times with Mourinho gaining 3 victories to Pellegrini's 1, the other fixture being a 1-1 draw. Worryingly for all Manchester City fans, Real Madrid under Mourinho handed 2 heavy defeats to Malaga under Pellegrini. 6-2 at home on 8/5/2013 and 7-0 at home on 3/3/2011. However this is a different league and 2 different teams.
Pellegrini likes to play a fast paced attacking style of football. In Contrast Mourinho likes to play a more defensive a direct style.
City and Chelsea have met each other 139 times, Chelsea winning 55,Manchester city 47 wins and 37 draws. More recently though the last 5 meetings between these 2 clubs have resulted in 4 wins to City and 1 draw. Both clubs have been tipped as potential league winners and both clubs have yet to begin to fire on all cylinders. Millions of pounds of talent will be on display on Sunday but will this 1 game decide the destiny of the Premier league title? Absolutely not.
Both teams can be scored against and with like's of David Luiz who models himself on sideshow Bob, the likes of Aguero, Negredo, David Silva must be confident about being able to produce more than 1 goal. Likewise for Chelsea if Javi "slow Motion" Garcia plays, Chelsea will also be confident about exposing this weakness in City's back 4. One key feature of this match will be that Chelsea do not posses a striker that could score 20-30 league goals a season. City on the other-hand possess the outstanding Sergio Aguero who is definitely capable of bagging himself 30 league goals. Both teams have very strong midfields. Oscar and Eden Hazard are capable of winning the game for Chelsea. Likewise Silva, Toure and Aguero are well capable of winning the game for City.
I see plenty of goals in this fixture due to the firepower both teams have and each teams defensive weaknesses. However the fact that Sergio Aguero is on fire and David Silva is once again showing why City fans refer to him as Merlin, I see City just edging this one. I'm hoping to see plenty of fist pumping from Pellegrini and not a lot of Mourinho sliding around on his knees in his Hugo Boss suit. This is going to be a serious test for both teams and a serious test of both sets of fans nerves. I'm going to be brave and say City win this 3-2.
